About Fishbowl
Fishbowl is an industry leading, top supplier of manufacturing and warehouse management software for small, medium, and enterprise sized businesses across 40+ verticals. While our mission is to deliver amazing software, service, training, and support to our customers to help them grow and scale their business operations, our passion is helping people. Whether you are new to owning and operating a business, or you have been at it for 20+ years, Fishbowl provides simplicity and flow for business owners and makes it easier for them to focus on what they love most, running their business.
To support the mission of Fishbowl, we have recently partnered with Diversis Capital to invest in Fishbowl's growth and market scale. We are well on our way to developing exciting new cloud-based products that will continue to surprise and delight our existing and future customers. We also have exciting plans to expand our efforts internationally and are focused on building a globally oriented team that will allow us to scale our operations and future market growth potential.
Production MySQL Database Engineer
We are looking for a senior Production MySQL Database Engineer
to own and operate our database layer end to end. This is a solo role and
requires someone who is comfortable making architectural decisions, executing
them, and supporting the system in production.
Our environment runs a multi data center,
multi cluster MySQL
Galera topology with ProxySQL in front of thousands of containerized
application instances. All data centers are active and serve live tenant
traffic. Each tenant has a defined writable location and data locality must be
enforced globally while maintaining cross cluster and cross data center
replication.
This is a net new production deployment of
an existing application. You will work closely with infrastructure engineers
during design and rollout, then take full ownership of database operations once
live.
Responsibilities:
1. Design, deploy, and operate a production MySQL Galera environment across multiple data centers
2. Own ProxySQL configuration, routing logic, and failover behavior at scale
3. Implement and manage global data locality and writable instance selection per tenant
4. Ensure replication health within clusters, across clusters, and across data centers
5. Define backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies and test them regularly
6. Tune MySQL for high concurrency, low latency, and predictable performance
7. Build tooling and automation for monitoring, alerting, failover, and routine operations
8. Troubleshoot complex production issues involving replication, consistency, latency, and failover
9. Partner with infrastructure engineers on network design, storage, orchestration, and observability
10. Establish operational standards, runbooks, and on call procedures for the database layer
Requirements:
1. Deep hands on experience running MySQL in production at scale
2. Strong practical knowledge of MySQL Galera, including failure modes and recovery
3. Experience operating ProxySQL in front of high traffic application fleets
4. Proven ability to manage multi data center replication and active active traffic patterns
5. Comfort being the sole owner of a critical production system
6. Strong debugging skills across MySQL, networking, and application interaction layers
7. Experience working with containerized backends and modern infrastructure stacks
8. Ability to design systems, not just maintain them
This role is suited for someone who
prefers ownership, autonomy, and solving hard production problems without heavy
process or hand holding.
Benefits
  • Flexible PTO with no accrual needed allowing employees the time they need away from work
  • Multiple healthcare options to choose from including PPO and CDHP options with matching company contributions to an employee's HSA account
  • Paid parental leave
  • 401K matching
