Summary:
This position description is for an on-site consultant who would provide design support and maintenance for the customer's Unisys OS2200-based hierarchical (DMS) and relational databases (RDMS).
Unisys OS2200 hierarchical (DMS) databases conform to CODASYL network database standards.
Unisys OS2200 relational (RDMS) databases are compliant with SQL standards.
This position will be on-site working with the customer's IT staff in their offices in Harrisburg, PA.
The candidate selected for this position will provide support for OS2200 logical and physical database design and maintenance and review and prepare for growth of OS2200 databases.
This consultant would also be called upon to develop special utility programs for database maintenance.
The types of database maintenance to be performed include the addition, modification, or deletion of database records and the addition, modification, or deletion of fields in database records.
Other database maintenance areas would involve the analysis and addition of access mechanisms to improve the performance of database queries.
Coordination of the data dictionary for the Unisys OS2200 databases would also be required.

Perform logical database design for Unisys OS2200 DMS hierarchical databases.
Perform physical database design for Unisys OS2200 DMS hierarchical databases.
Code and interpret schemas for Unisys OS2200 DMS hierarchical databases.
Code and interpret subschemas for Unisys OS2200 DMS hierarchical databases.
Perform database reorganizations for Unisys OS2200 DMS hierarchical databases.
Perform logical database design for Unisys OS2200 RDMS relational databases.
Perform physical database design for Unisys OS2200 RDMS relational databases.
Code and interpret schemas for Unisys OS2200 RDMS relational databases.
Code and interpret subschemas for Unisys OS2200 RDMS relational databases.
Create COBOL programs to perform database unloads and reloads, as needed, for Unisys OS2200 DMS and RDMS database maintenance functions.
Create hierarchical (DMS) database maintenance and reorganization routines, as needed, using I-QU PLUS-1 software from KMSYS Worldwide Inc.(http://www.kmsys.com).
Create hierarchical (DMS) database maintenance routines, as needed, using Unisys OS2200 DMU and DRU utilities.
Coordinate and maintain the data dictionary using the Unisys UREP products.
Proactively monitor the sizes of Unisys OS2200 DMS and RDMS databases and proactively develop and execute plans to increase sizes of databases and make recommendations on purge and archive processes to deal with the removal of old records.
Proactively monitor Unisys OS2200 DMS DARP and SARP page usage for handling the storage of additional records onto overflow pages.
This is critical so that there is always a sufficient amount of overflow pages to handle the requirements of the customer's mission-critical applications.
Perform capacity planning for Unisys OS2200 DMS and RDMS databases to plan for disk storage capacity to meet the needs of current and upcoming applications.
This is also critical to help ensure that sufficient lead time is availalble for funding, purchasing, and preparing additional disk storage.
Assist in diagnosing and addressing application issues in COBOL programs that use Unisys OS2200 DMS and RDMS databases.
Based on the nature of the application issues and the impacts to the database design and integrity, this consultant will be called upon to develop automated processes to identify and correct the impacted fields in database records and relationships between records.
The COBOL programs may perform transaction processing or batch processing.
Familiarity with both transaction and batch processing is critical.
The customer also has a large number of Windows-based custom-built .NET multi-tier applications that integrate with the Unisys OS2200 COBOL applications and DMS and RDMS databases.
Familiarity with distributed transaction processing based on the x/Open model and standard is critical.
Be proficient in the use of the DBE (Database Editor) utility for performing analysis and maintenance of Unisys OS2200 DMS databases.
This consultant will be required to work non-standard hours, on occasion, to complete some of the migration work to avoid disrupting users or systems during the normal business day.
