The State of Michigan is looking for: Database Administrator 5
 
- Interview Process:
First Round- Virtual interview via MS Teams (video required). Candidates should join from a laptop and be prepared to share their screen if requested.  Interviews are anticipated to begin the week of 4/6 and will be conducted by the hiring manager, their supervisor, and an additional senior DBA
Second Round- In-person interview at 320 S Walnut St, Lansing, MI with the senior leadership team
- Assignment duration: Ongoing contract with a possibility of extension based on performance and business needed
- Hybrid Work Schedule (Non-Negotiable): There is no remote-only option
Required onsite days- Mondays and Tuesdays
Remote eligible days- Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 
The resource must meet these requirements from the beginning  
- Candidates must be local to the Lansing, Michigan area (within 90 miles) at time of submission. This requirement is non-negotiable

Summary:

The position is responsible for providing Infrastructure DBA support for all Oracle databases and it is replacement for a Senior Level DBA leaving the team. The intention is to fill this position in the gap between the incumbent DBA leaves, and the position is backfilled which will take several months. We cannot afford not having a resource for the large and complex databases that we support and in that there are several Tier 2 level applications that are affected such as Master Person Index, Michigan Adult Integrated Management System, etc.

As a Senior Database Administrator, the resource, participates in 24x7 software and hardware support for complex applications in several versions of Oracle, with high availability and Disaster Recovery support, following industry and DTMB development standards. The role operates within a 24x7 support environment but does not require on-call coverage. If after-hours support is needed and the resource is available to assist, approved additional hours will be compensated. This also helps develop and/or submit for approval, plans for installation, patch management maintenance, upgrades and support for the Database systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate impacts of change and new technology, recommend solutions to persistent problems, and serve as Agency Services liaison to external consultants.
  • Follow and enforce database standards, policies & procedures. Research and draft guidelines within the boundaries of current policies and standards.
  • Monitor space allocation across databases, perform adjustments in test and development environments as necessary and as prescribed by predefined standards/guidelines.
  • Calculate disk space requirements for existing and/or new installations of existing business needs  
  • Modify DBMS parameters based on capacity changes.
  • Configure and execute database integrity checks.
  • Monitor for database integrity checks
  • Install database base management software for development and test environments.
  • Install database patches and service packs for development and test environments.
  • Implement the strategy to release unused space or repair fragmentation in test and development environments.
  • Execute (run) scripts provided by Systems Analysts or Database Architect/Designer for creating and modifying database objects (tables, views, constraints, indexes, etc.)
  • Monitor database jobs and scheduled processes in development, test and production environments. Participate in troubleshooting. 
  • Monitor database environments (using alert logs, trace files, alert mechanisms, and other tools) for issues and problems with database functionality, connectivity, or downtime.
  • Follow standards and guidelines for database space allocation based on best practices and implementation considerations based on business requirements.                                                     

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of Database administration specifically on Oracle 18c and upwards
  • 5+ years of experience creating, updating and maintaining systems documentation
  • Experience with high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) database solutions
  • Experience supporting database replication and backup environments
  • Experience supporting clustered database environments
  • Experience monitoring production database environments and troubleshooting outages

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous State of Michigan experience
