Job description

Journey with us! Combine your career goals and sense of adventure by joining our exciting team of employees. Royal Caribbean Group is pleased to offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, and excellent career development opportunities, each offering unique ways to explore the world.
The Royal Caribbean Group has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Lead, Data Visualization & Business Intelligence reporting to the Manager, Data Visualization.
Position is onsite and based in Miami, FL
Royal Caribbean Group is seeking a Lead Business Intelligence Analyst to serve as the technical and design anchor of the Data Visualization & Business Intelligence (DVBI) team. This is the highest individual contributor role on the team - someone who sets the standard for how BI is built, visualized, and delivered across the organization.
You'll own Power BI architecture and data visualization design standards, govern how the team interacts with our Databricks Lakehouse platform, lead our AI analytics strategy, and define the visual design framework that determines how VP- and AVP-level leadership across Revenue Planning, Deployment, Air Planning, and Operations Research experience RCG's analytics.
If you're someone who sweats the design details as much as the data model - who can articulate why a bar chart is wrong for a particular use case, architect a Databricks SQL Warehouse strategy, and still mentor a junior analyst on DAX best practices - this role was built for you.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Own the DVBI data visualization framework - defining visual hierarchy standards, typography guidelines, color governance, chart selection criteria, and audience-appropriate design patterns for the entire team.
  • Design the team's most complex executive dashboards - KPI frameworks, narrative-driven layouts, and multi-page analytical experiences that make insights immediately actionable for senior leadership.
  • Conduct visual design reviews alongside technical code reviews - ensuring every dashboard the team ships meets both the analytical and visual quality bar.
  • Champion accessibility standards - WCAG contrast compliance, colorblind-safe palettes, and screen-reader-compatible formatting across all DVBI-published content.
  • Govern the Databricks SQL Warehouse strategy - compute configurations, query optimization standards, and BI-optimized access patterns.
  • Architect Power BI Direct Lake connectivity to Databricks - establishing reusable integration patterns across SQL Warehouses and Fabric Lakehouse.
  • Lead the team's engagement with the medallion architecture - defining Gold-layer consumption patterns and shaping Silver-to-Gold transformation requirements with Data Engineering.
  • Own Databricks Unity Catalog governance - access control, lineage, tagging, and certified data product management for DVBI.
  • Write and review PySpark and Databricks SQL for complex transformations and aggregations that feed the visualization reporting layer.
  • Lead DVBI's AI strategy - governing Power BI Copilot, Databricks Genie / LakehouseIQ, Fabric AI, and Azure OpenAI, including visual design standards for AI-generated outputs.
  • Set Power BI architecture standards - composite models, shared semantic models, RLS, deployment pipeline governance, and custom visual approval.
  • Mentor all DVBI team members on technical, visualization, and AI tooling - conducting code reviews, design critiques, and structured skill-building sessions.
  • Present BI roadmap, visualization strategy, Databricks platform decisions, and AI adoption progress to VP- and AVP-level leadership independently.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
  • 7+ years of progressive BI experience with clear evidence of increasing technical scope and leadership over time.
  • Demonstrated excellence in data visualization design - visual hierarchy, color theory, chart selection, executive dashboard design, and accessibility standards - with visible evidence of design quality alongside technical capability.
  • Expert-level Power BI mastery - composite models, Direct Lake on Databricks and Fabric, advanced DAX, shared semantic models, RLS, and deployment pipeline ownership.
  • Production-level Databricks experience - SQL Warehouses, Delta Lake, notebooks, Unity Catalog, and Databricks-to-Power BI integration.
  • Advanced SQL across enterprise environments - Databricks SQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and Fabric Lakehouse.
  • Demonstrated experience setting technical and design direction for a team - owning standards, leading reviews, making architectural and visual decisions.
  • Executive-level communication - you present to VPs and AVPs independently, and you make both data and design decisions legible to business audiences.

Technical & Design Skills:
  • Data Visualization - visual hierarchy, typography, color theory, chart selection, executive & operational dashboard design, WCAG accessibility standards, storytelling with data, branded theme ownership.
  • Databricks - SQL Warehouses, Delta Lake, PySpark, notebooks, workflows, Unity Catalog, Repos / Git, Genie / LakehouseIQ, Direct Lake connectivity to Power BI.
  • Power BI Desktop & Service - expert: composite models, Direct Lake (Databricks & Fabric), advanced DAX, shared semantic models, RLS, deployment pipelines, custom visual governance.
  • SQL - advanced: window functions, CTEs, query optimization across Databricks SQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and Fabric Lakehouse.
  • Microsoft Fabric - Lakehouse, Dataflows Gen2, Direct Lake, Real-Time Intelligence, and Fabric-Databricks integration.
  • Python / PySpark - production data transformation, automation, and AI/ML integration (strongly preferred).
  • AI Tools - Databricks Genie / LakehouseIQ, Power BI Copilot, Fabric AI, Azure OpenAI (expected to lead and govern, not just use).
  • Power Query / M - advanced transformation patterns and dataflow governance.
  • Excel (Advanced), SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Power Automate.

Preferred:
  • Experience building or owning a team-wide visualization design system - chart standards, color governance, accessibility rules, and design review processes.
  • Deep Databricks expertise - PySpark, Databricks workflows, Repos / Git, medallion architecture governance, and Genie / LakehouseIQ at production scale.
  • Production Microsoft Fabric experience - Lakehouse, Dataflows Gen2, Direct Lake, and Fabric-Databricks integration patterns.
  • Deep AI tool experience - Power BI Copilot, Databricks Genie, Azure OpenAI, Fabric AI - including governance and visualization guidance for AI-generated outputs.
  • Strong Python / PySpark proficiency - production use for transformations, automation, and AI/ML pipeline integration.
  • Background in revenue management, yield analytics, financial planning, or travel and hospitality data environments.
  • Master's degree in a quantitative or design-related field.

We know there's a lot to consider. As you go through the application process, our recruiters will be glad to provide guidance, and more relevant details to answer any additional questions. Thank you again for your interest in Royal Caribbean Group. We'll hope to see you onboard soon!
