Short Description:
Under broad supervision, manages projects through full life cycle from project definition through implementation of project deliverables. Creates collaborative partnership with all internal and external team members to accomplish the deliverables.

Complete Description:

The GDOT IT Applications Project Manager (PM) will lead and manage multiple internal and external end-to-end IT applications and software projects, documentation, and processes while reinforcing defined infrastructure and software best practices. The PM will drive process improvement, documentation management, and project governance to ensure follow-through, timeliness, and accuracy across the project portfolio. This role requires 5+ years of experience managing software and IT applications projects, with demonstrated proficiency in both Waterfall and Agile methodologies. Must be able to run large projects with minimal oversight.

  • Contract and Compliance Awareness: Read and extract scope, deliverables, milestones, and obligations from contractual documentation andtranslate those requirements into actionable project plans

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other project managers, clients, vendors, and engineering teams on various projects, presentations, and meetings ensuringfollow-up and adequate communication for continuous alignment on multiple projects (small and large in parallel).
  • Manage project tracking and reporting through a structured Waterfall framework to ensure full compliance visibility and no gaps in milestone or deliverable accountability, while supporting development and engineering teams who execute work using Agile practices such as Kanban and Scrum.
  • Review and interpret contractual documentation to extract project scope, deliverable requirements, compliance obligations, and keymilestones, ensuring project plans and team activities remain aligned with contract terms.
  • Provide attention to detail to internal and external email communications to analyze in order to produce relevant and valuable responses tomaintain organizational relationships and project visibility.
  • Identify relevant audiences for meetings, ensuring thorough meeting preparation and creating project charter and kick-off presentations thatprovide information such as business driver, targeted audience, communications plan, scope, project phases, and next steps for planningproject schedule activities with technical teams.
  • Conduct meeting analysis that results in facilitation of routine meetings/ceremonies to track projects and maintain project boards anddashboards using Jira and ServiceNow.
  • Understand when and how to escalate to other groups when necessary.
  • Consistently maintain project status, update project roadmaps, and adhere to defined project structure standards with the integrated tool stack provided.
  • Ability to draft process and how to documentation.
  • Assist with identifying project constraints, risks, inefficiencies, and areas where processes can be improved and/or reinforced.
  • Reinforce agreed upon priorities, policies, and team best practices.
  • Utilize project management software i.e., MS Project/Project Online, SharePoint Project Template, Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow, etc.
  • Maintain, update, and archive project notes, follow-ups, and documentation.
  • Familiar with all functions of Outlook including alert functions and the ability to schedule meetings utilizing the Scheduling Assistant.
  • Generate and archive notes from project meetings that add value to management decision-making.
  • Ensure communication channels are made available for all projects to enable adequate communication and escalation process among project team members.
  • Hybrid with the expectation to come onsite to the Atlanta (Midtown) office as needed.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of project management experience specifically with software development or IT applications.
  • Experience with both Waterfall and Agile (Scrum/Kanban) methodologies in a hybrid delivery environment. Proficiency with MS Project or Project Online for schedule development and management.
  • Highly proficient in writing, editing, and follow-through
  • Experience reading contractual documentation and extracting project scope, deliverables, and compliance obligations
  • Some relevant college experience or applicable certifications (preferred) or college degree (preferred)

Preferred:

  • PMP, CAPM, or equivalent certification preferred
  • College Degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Engineering, or Computer Science
