Technical & Environmental Systems (TES)

TES is part of the Chief Technical Officer's team at Cummins. We focus on how data, AI, and analytics can improve engineering decisions, support sustainability goals, and help the company plan for the future.

This role is not hands-on mechanical engineering. Instead, it focuses on how data and technology are used to understand systems, track environmental impact, and support better decisions.

What You'll Learn and Work On AI & Data in Real-World Decisions (Primary Focus)

  • Learn how data and AI are used to guide engineering and business decisions
  • Help organize and analyze data related to products, systems, or sustainability
  • Explore how teams use dashboards, models, and tools to gain insights

Sustainability & Environmental Analytics

  • Support work connected to Cummins' sustainability goals (Destination Zero)
  • Help track and understand environmental data such as emissions, energy use, or product impact
  • Learn how data is used to measure progress and identify improvement opportunities

Systems Thinking (How Everything Connects)

  • Learn how different parts of a company connect through data
  • Support work that looks across products, technologies, and business areas

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work with team members across data, sustainability, and engineering groups
  • Help prepare simple summaries, visuals, or presentations to share insights

Key Responsibilities Project Work (40-50%)

  • Support 1-2 projects focused on data analysis, AI insights, or sustainability tracking
  • Help gather, clean, and organize data
  • Create simple charts, dashboards, or summaries of findings

Team Support (20-30%)

  • Assist with data tracking, research, and documentation
  • Support ongoing team initiatives related to AI or environmental reporting

Learning & Development (20-30%)

  • Attend sessions on AI, data, sustainability, and how companies use analytics
  • Work with a mentor or buddy to build skills
  • Participate in intern and team activities

What We're Looking For

  • High school senior interested in AI, data, sustainability, or technology
  • Curious about how data is used to solve real-world problems
  • Comfortable working with numbers, patterns, or basic data tools
  • Strong communication and willingness to learn
  • Experience with tools like Excel, coding, or data visualization is helpful but not required
