Job description

Role Overview

This 12-week internship offers a hands-on, rotational experience within MJ's Enterprise Data team, designed for a curious and motivated student interested in software engineering, data, analytics, and technology.

Interns will rotate across the team's three core disciplines: Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and Business Intelligence (BI) Development, contributing to real projects and gaining practical exposure to how modern enterprise applications, data platforms, and analytics solutions are designed, developed, and supported.

Throughout the rotation, interns will work alongside members of each team, gaining experience with software development practices, data engineering and database technologies, and reporting and data visualization. The internship culminates in a capstone project and presentation to MJ associates and leadership, allowing the intern to apply the technical and professional skills developed throughout the summer to a meaningful business problem.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibility 1

  • Participate in a rotational experience across Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and BI Development, with opportunities to:
    • Contribute to software development initiatives and gain exposure to enterprise application development practices and technologies
    • Write and work with SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, analysis, and application needs
    • Support data engineering initiatives, including data processing, integration, and pipeline development
    • Build and enhance Power BI reports and dashboards that support internal stakeholders and clients
    • Use programming and scripting languages such as .NET, Python, or similar technologies to support application development, automation, and data processing

Key Responsibility 2

  • Participate in a capstone project that applies technical and analytical skills to solve a real business problem. The project may involve software development, data engineering, process automation, reporting and visualization, or analytics, and will culminate in a presentation to MJ associates and leadership.

Key Responsibility 3

  • Contribute to the quality and maintainability of MJ's technology and data solutions through activities such as testing, documentation, data validation, code review, and adherence to established development and data practices.

Key Responsibility 4

  • Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, BI developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders while developing professional skills in problem solving, communication, teamwork, and working within an enterprise technology environment.
