Job description

The Senior Data Scientist will design, develop, and maintain data-driven solutions that support SFLC business operations, logistics integration, asset readiness, and decision-making. This role will use advanced analytics, data modeling, automation, ETL processes, and data visualization to improve data quality, accessibility, usability, and operational insight across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical experience working with logistics, business, operational, or enterprise data and will be able to transform complex datasets into actionable insights for SFLC leadership and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain data-driven solutions supporting Coast Guard business operations and logistics integration.
  • Use programming languages, data tools, and analytics platforms within the Coast Guard data systems environment.
  • Develop, implement, and manage ETL processes to consolidate data from multiple sources.
  • Integrate data from transportation management systems, warehouse management systems, external data providers, and other logistics or business sources.
  • Automate data workflows to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent availability of data for analytics and reporting.
  • Ensure seamless data flow and integration across platforms, systems, and business functions.
  • Collect, clean, preprocess, and validate data to ensure high quality and consistency.
  • Support development and implementation of predictive and statistical models.
  • Support analytics related to asset readiness forecasting, inventory management, logistics performance, and operational optimization.
  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualizations for SFLC leadership and stakeholders.
  • Provide actionable insights through data analysis, modeling, and visualization.
  • Support improvements to data quality, accessibility, and usability across the organization.

Requirements
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining data-driven analytics solutions.
  • Experience developing and managing ETL processes across multiple data sources.
  • Experience with data cleaning, preprocessing, validation, automation, and workflow development.
  • Experience supporting predictive modeling, statistical modeling, or advanced analytics.
  • Experience designing dashboards, reports, or visualizations that support business or logistics decision-making.
  • Strong programming, data analysis, and data visualization skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Coast Guard, DHS, DoD, federal logistics, maintenance, supply, or asset readiness environments.
  • Experience with logistics systems, transportation management systems, warehouse management systems, or external logistics data providers.
  • Experience with Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, or similar data science and visualization tools.
  • Experience supporting inventory management, operational optimization, asset readiness forecasting, or logistics integration.
