Position Summary

Assistant Vice President of Enterprise Data

Location: Orlando Health Team Member Center

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Enterprise Data provides executive leadership for enterprise data strategy, cloud data engineering, data governance, integration, and data operations that support critical clinical and business applications. This role oversees the Azure and Azure Databricks data platform, ensuring that data is reliable, secure, accessible, and aligned with organizational needs. The AVP collaborates with leaders across clinical, operational, IT/CE, digital, finance, and quality domains to deliver high-value, scalable data solutions that enable better decisions and better care.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

    • Develop and execute an enterprise data strategy aligned with Orlando Health’s mission and priorities.
    • Drive modernization of data platforms, data services, and governance capabilities.
    • Ensure data initiatives deliver measurable business and clinical value.

Team Leadership

    • Lead and develop teams across data engineering, governance, and integration.
    • Build a culture of accountability, innovation, and operational excellence.

Cloud Data Engineering

    • Oversee the enterprise data platform (Azure + Azure Databricks), including architecture, pipelines, and data models.
    • Ensure platform reliability, performance, cost management, and modern engineering practices (CI/CD, DevOps).

Enterprise Data Governance

    • Establish and enforce governance policies, metadata standards, data quality expectations, and stewardship processes.
    • Ensure regulatory compliance, trusted data assets, and consistent definitions across the enterprise.

Critical Data Integration

    • Lead enterprise integration operations (HL7, FHIR, APIs, batch/streaming)
    • Support the development of new interfaces, facilitating electronic medical record (EMR) conversions, and ensuring seamless integration of critical applications across the organization.
    • Ensure secure, high-availability data flows across clinical, operational, and administrative systems.

Support for Mission-Critical Applications

    • Maintain reliable data services supporting EHR, ERP, clinical systems, reporting, and analytics.
    • Manage escalation and incident response for data issues affecting clinical or business operations.
    • Lead strategy and execution of Legacy Data Archival (LDA), ensuring accurate extraction, secure storage, retention compliance, and reliable long-term access to historical data.
    • Oversee archival vendor management, data validation, and integration processes during system decommissioning.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Partner with Informatics, Digital Innovation, IT/CE, Finance, Operations, and Quality to align data initiatives with organizational needs.
    • Communicate technical concepts clearly to executive and non-technical stakeholders.

Data Product & Lifecycle Management

    • Oversee development of curated datasets, semantic layers, and reusable data products.
    • Support analytics and AI teams by enabling high-quality, accessible, well-governed data.

Qualifications

Education

    • Master’s degree in a technical or related field.

Preferred Certifications

    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
    • Databricks Certified Data Engineer or ML Engineer
    • Epic Data Model Certifications (Caboodle, Clarity, Cosmos)

Experience

    • Minimum of 10 (ten) years leadership experience in data engineering, architecture, governance, or integration, preferably in a healthcare setting.
    • Deep experience with Azure, Azure Databricks, Spark, and/or other modern cloud data ecosystems (GCP, AWS, Oracle etc.).
    • Cloud data engineering expertise.
    • Strong understanding of healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR) and regulated environments (HIPAA).
    • Demonstrated ability to deliver enterprise-scale data initiatives and lead technical teams.
    • Preferred experience working with EPIC or other major EHRs.
