We accelerate CoreAI's mission by delivering insights, reporting, models, and tools that guide product strategy and unlock growth across our developer ecosystem.
We're looking for a Principal Data Scientist - CoreAI with a track record of cross-team partnership, effective communication with engineering, executive leadership and sales, the ability to translate product questions into targeted data science investigations, and the ability to independently identify/execute/automate insightful analysis that improves Microsoft's developer-focused AI suite and drives product growth.

Responsibilities
  • Supply executives with time-critical analyses that steer major investment decisions.
  • Drive alignment across executives and diverse stakeholders through trusted partnerships, compelling analysis, and effective communication.
  • Identify and prioritize high ROI data opportunities for your individual work and the broader team.
  • Contribute actively to the infrastructure and culture needed to scale quantity and quality of data insights across CoreAI.
  • Mentor other data scientists, engineers, and PMs.
  • Operationalize models and reporting.
  • Leverage AI to accelerate workflows and amplify team productivity.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
      • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
        • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience leading data science and analytics projects that delivered measurable product and growth wins.
  • 5+ years of experience analyzing, visualizing, and modeling large-scale data using SQL, Python, or R.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and analyzing experiments and causal inference studies.
  • 3+ years of experience contributing to scaled data pipelines supporting operationalized reports, models and analyses.
  • Experience using AI tools in data science and analytics workflows.
  • Experience both prototyping and deploying data products.

Data Science IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
