Summary
The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board's Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board's internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes.

The Data Architecture, Technology, and Analytics (DATA) section is seeking a graduate intern to support the advancement of key initiatives focused on modernizing the Research & Statistics Division's data environment. This role will provide hands-on experience with data engineering, data transformation, data pipelines, and storage while contributing to ongoing projects that enhance the division's ability to manage and leverage data effectively. The intern will contribute to a range of assignments, including structured data engineering projects and ad-hoc tasks, gaining practical insight into how modern data solutions are developed and implemented in a collaborative environment.

Specific projects/assignments may include:

         Developing data pipelines and machine learning-based analytical tools within an AWS environment.

         Designing and implementing data quality and automation solutions, including data validation processes, workflow automation, metadata management, and reusable scripts to improve the efficiency and reliability of data operations.

         Developing data visualization and analytical products using tools such as Python, SQL, and AWS services to support operational reporting, performance monitoring, and data-driven decision making. This may include creating dashboards, interactive reports, and analytical prototypes for staff.

Education Requirements

         Graduating August 2027 or later

         Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Management Systems, Data Analytics, or other related field of study.

Skills/Knowledge Required

         Graduate school level or equivalent Data Analytics background with AWS cloud experience.

         Strong quantitative skills, including programming experience in python, R and other scripting languages for processing numerical and unstructured data.

         Experience in creating complex regular expressions.

         Knowledge of AWS cloud

         Skilled in the graphical representation of information in the form of charts, diagrams, pictures, and dashboards with programs and tools (e.g., Excel, Power Bl, python/R graphics lib).

         Excellent oral and written communication skills.

         Excellent organization skills.

Data Science, Data Engineering, Data Pipeline Development, Python and Database experience is preferred but not required.

This internship will be part-time during fall/spring semesters (no more than 20 hours per week) and full-time in the summer. The selected candidate will be required to be onsite at our offices in Washington, DC during the summer.
