Job description

Compensation Grade: 29Job Description

Mission-driven. Not-for-profit. These are just two reasons SAIF is not your typical insurance company. So, naturally, this is not your typical analyst position.
As our new senior claims data analyst, you'll be performing high-level analytical functions that have a huge impact on the success of our claims division.
You will work with business partners throughout the organization-including internal audit, finance, actuary, underwriting, and policyholder services -to make data-based decisions around our products and services, utilization trends, and our customer experience.
Working individually and with business partners, you'll create and maintain existing reports, build forecasts, and develop analysis to leverage data in new ways. You'll extrapolate data to help drive decisions and create visuals to share with others. You'll also need demonstrated knowledge of statistical processes and techniques.
Strong skills with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, are so crucial that we require them. The same is true for being able to communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical audiences. Strong Tableau or other analytical tool experience is critical. Above all, a passion for data and analysis is a must.
The selected candidate will need to reside in Oregon and could work remotely from their home office. You will travel to our Salem headquarters approximately once per week.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct operational studies. Compile information and synthesize, analyze, and evaluate complex data and issues to develop and recommend improvements for policies, procedures, programs, and products.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, ensuring information is easily understood by the intended audience. Adapt both written and verbal presentation styles to ensure the audience's understanding regardless of technical proficiency. Tailor the message to align with the audience's interests and understanding.

  • Develop, study, and analyze tables, graphs, charts, and other statistics to arrive at logical conclusions about data. Apply analytical and quantitative approach to problem solving. Convert data into relevant information for monitoring, trending, and evaluating claims operational performance.

  • Monitor data accuracy through upstream and downstream data channels including creation of error reports to ensure accuracy of claims' data. Collaborate with business partners to resolve data discrepancies and enhance accuracy of data and reports for current and future utilization.

  • Provide ad hoc analytic services to internal and external stakeholders. Determine appropriate prioritization of research, reporting, and data analysis in line with division and organizational needs.

  • Perform financial analyses and prepare forecast for proposed initiatives, programs, and costs.

  • Serve as a consultant and resource for internal and external claims management information, pro-active problem resolution, and the application of analytical techniques.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and work effectively with business and technical subject matter experts across organizational lines to support the understanding and use of claims data and reporting.

  • Engage with business partners to support data collection, reporting, and analytics by addressing report issues, developing system and business processes, determining customer reporting needs, assisting in the development, and testing of reports, ensuring data integrity, and maximizing utilization of available technology.

Additional functions:

  • Participate in cross-organizational project teams to design, improve, and implement claims strategies and initiatives.

  • Represent the claims data perspective in operational reviews, enterprise projects, and strategic initiatives.

  • Collaborate with IT and the data & analytics function to support data governance, incorporate the use of analytics to inform decisions, and help progress data strategy and transformation to support broader organizational data analytics efforts.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support team objectives and organizational goals, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in responding to evolving priorities and needs.

  • Explore diverse perspectives and consistently behave sensitively toward differences in cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating. Work effectively with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or work styles.

The following qualifications are recommended:

  • Five or more years of business analytics, data analysis or operational research experience.

  • Background using data visualization, data querying, and business intelligence tools.
