Job Summary:

The Associate Data Scientist plays an integral role in our strategic and operational capability at Just Energy by querying data repositories and generating ad-hoc reports and identifying data patterns and trends in available information sources. This role will provide exposure to customer data analytics covering multiple business departments including but not limited to credit policy analytics, collections strategy analytics, residential customer behavioral analytics. If you have a passion to apply your learnt concepts to real-life problem solving and can leverage data to drive your point - this role is a treasure house to learn and grow. Since our Analysts work in small group settings and interact directly with senior leadership as well as executive leadership on a regular basis, there is ample opportunity to build business acumen, sharpen critical thinking, analytical and decision-making skills in real-world business scenarios. 
The individual is expected to work with senior leadership in iterative problem solving or trend analysis leveraging the power of data and the informational insights it can drive. The successful candidate will have strong quantitative skills, exceptional initiative and, along with a drive to consistently seek-out additional information and ideas to support the problem solving. Responsibilities:

  • Proactively investigate data anomalies and reconcile forecast vs. actual performance and identify root causes for variances.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis to explore trends, uncover business insights, and quantify their potential impact.
  • Apply machine learning, and predictive modeling to solve business challenges and optimize performance.
  • Analyze and validate data to provide assurance of accuracy and validity of critical business information
  • Provide quantitative analysis, reporting, and trending for key strategic initiatives; provide data sets and metrics to add context and measure potential impact for new projects
  • Synthesize current business intelligence or trend data to support recommendations for action
  • Build reporting tools to assist business operational users to execute day-to-day responsibilities
  • Analyze data correlations / discrepancies / reconciliations and related impact to business
     

Requirements:

  • Strong analytical and quantitative modeling capability with some hands-on experience with performing analysis and modeling
  • 1-2 years' quantitative experience in any business field will be highly valued
  • Use tools like SQL and Python (e.g., pandas) for data cleaning, modeling, and visualization. Supervised learning (regression, classification), Unsupervised learning (clustering, PCA), Model validation (cross validation, bias/variance), ML pipelines & deployment concepts
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms like: Azure (Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse), AWS (S3, Redshift, Glue)
  • Strong ability to communicate & drive standardization & simplification efforts
  • Strong solution design capabilities
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams to understand business components and processes impacting the data you are set to analyze
  • Resourceful, quick learner able to efficiently seek out, learn, & apply new areas of expertise
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) for dashboard development
  • Self-starter, results-oriented, ability to prioritize and managing multiple tasks of varying complexities and be able to work with minimal supervision under deadlines.

Education: 

Bachelor's Degree in a business/analytical field of study (e.g. Business, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Management Information Systems)

Compensation: $68,740 - $92,800 CAD Annual *This range reflects base pay only. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company & personal performance.
