The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer supports Business Intelligence solutions that enable data-informed decision-making for assigned stakeholders. This role partners with internal business partners to translate business needs into dashboards, reports, and insights while ensuring data accuracy, usability, and consistency. The BI Developer role combines technical expertise, analytical thinking, collaboration, and a focus on continuous improvement to deliver reliable and actionable reporting solutions.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Create compelling and actionable visualizations and stories using Tableau to support business insights.

  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand requirements, uncover insights, and become a key resource for data questions and exploration.

  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify hidden trends, outliers, and actionable opportunities within datasets.

  • Use multiple SQL dialects to trace reporting data back to source systems, validating data lineage and ensuring the integrity of all reported information.

  • Design and build aggregates and semantic layers that support high-performance reporting.

  • Apply best practices for dashboard design, performance tuning, and user experience in Tableau.

  • Understand the underlying architecture of our data environment, including data warehouse, data lake, and lakehouse concepts.

  • Collaborate with data engineers and senior business Intelligence engineers to ensure data models and pipelines are optimized for reporting.

  • Play an integral role in the migration from legacy software reporting to Tableau, ensuring consistency, data accuracy, and modernization of reporting standards.

  • Validate data quality, reconcile reporting outputs with source data, and troubleshoot discrepancies.

  • Document data flows, metrics definitions, and dashboards to support governance and scalability.

  • Provide training or guidance to business users on reporting capabilities and best practices.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Proficient in SQL, with the ability to analyze, aggregate, and troubleshoot data across multiple dialects.

  • Knowledge of Tableau for dashboard creation, storytelling through data, and embedded visualization.

  • Working understanding of data warehouse, data lake, and lakehouse architecture and how they support analytics.

  • Experience creating aggregates, semantic layers, and optimized schemas for reporting performance.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and integrating reporting workloads within them.

  • Understanding of dashboard performance optimization, data-model best practices, and visualization standards.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills to translate data insights into business recommendations.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, statistics, mathematics, information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of three years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data-reporting roles.

Salary Range: $93,000 To $113,000 Annually
