Job Summary
This is a seasonal position that helps identify and locate invasive vegetation, brush and trees; maps noxious weeds using Global Positioning System (G.P.S.) and GIS (geographic information systems) equipment and maintains weed management data and provides accurate notification to landowners regarding noxious weeds as required in the Colorado Weed Management Act and La Plata County Code.

  • Locates, identifies and maps noxious weeds using a laptop mapping system.
  • Performs GIS analyzing tasks and post processing of data collected in field.
  • Generates weed management notices and prepares mailing to appropriate landowners.
  • Researches files to determine property ownership, mailing addresses, legal description, and acreage.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience:
College courses in GIS and those related toenvironmental science.
Experience with ArcMap and editing vector data.
Knowledge of how to use ArcGIS Online.
Any combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Local flora and native plants

Quickly learning how to identify several plant species
Estimating accurate measurements, distances and plant crown cover densities

Ability to drive or be in a vehicle for extended periods.
Ability to be discrete and confidential regarding land ownership
