Position Overview: ZenPoint Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to support a federal law enforcement agency’s enterprise software modernization initiative. In this role, you will be responsible for data migration activities and establishing a robust target data architecture optimized for complex transactions and data analysis. The Data Engineer will design and execute advanced data pipelines, transitioning data structures from a legacy repository system into a modular, modernized cloud environment. This position requires deep expertise in Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) workflows, semantic data mapping, and continuous collaboration with agency subject matter experts to preserve historical data integrity. This position is contingent upon the successful award of a government contract and subsequent government approval. Key Responsibilities:
Data Pipeline Design: Design, build, and deploy automated data pipelines utilizing industry-standard tools such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
ETL Management: Oversee complex ETL processes, optimizing data workflows for peak system performance, speed, and structural integrity.
Data Mapping & Alignment: Define, validate, and maintain comprehensive source-to-target data mappings that accurately preserve structural relationships and semantic meaning.
SME Collaboration: Validate data transformation rules and mapping dependencies directly with agency Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) prior to production deployment.
Agile Integration: Formally link data migration tasks and ETL activities directly to user stories inside the team's agile backlog management tool.
Testing & Quality Assurance: Test and verify data transformations under rigorous criteria, establishing 100% traceability from source systems to target systems while validating edge cases and handling anomalies.
Technical Documentation: Create, update, and maintain critical data governance artifacts, including the project Data Dictionary, Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs), and comprehensive ETL Design Specifications. Required Qualifications:
Candidate must be a United States Citizen and present proof of Citizenship, if selected
Minimum of 4 years of experience focusing on data migration, pipeline engineering, and data architecture
Demonstrated experience writing clean transformation logic, managing complex database objects, and executing structured data workflows. Desired Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
Professional Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
Cloud Infrastructure Knowledge: Familiarity with hosting environments, database synchronization, or data streaming within Amazon Web Services (AWS) or secure federal cloud environments.
