Job description
College Board - Global Strategy & Talent (GST)
Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico. This is a hybrid role and requires the candidate to be on-site at College Board offices every Tuesday and Wednesday.
Role Type: This is a full-time position.
About the Team
College Board LATAM exists to expand educational opportunity across the region and to make sure the decisions that shape students' futures rest on solid evidence. As part of the Research & Development (R&D) division, the Research & Measurement (R&M) team keeps our assessments scientifically rigorous, operationally sound, and true to that mission across Latin America. We work at the intersection of psychometrics, data science, and applied research, guiding how our assessments are designed, scored, analyzed, and continuously improved, holding our work to high standards of accuracy, reproducibility, and clear documentation. We partner closely with Test Development, Technology and Assessment Operations to keep high-quality assessment programs running across the region. Together, we advance CB LATAM's mission of connecting students to college success and career opportunity, leading the initiatives that integrate our data analytic cycles more seamlessly and turn them into insights students and educators can trust and act on.
About the Opportunity
As our Statistical Data Analyst, you are a strong, curious data professional, ready to put proven skills in data wrangling, analysis, and visualization to work on problems that genuinely matter. This role is a strong fit for someone ready to bring and expand transferable data skills into a new domain, and to apply them with confidence from day one.
You make sure the data behind every score is sound, the analysis holds up to scrutiny, and the results students and educators depend on are ones they can believe in. You will be a hands-on, technical contributor to the Research & Measurement team, responsible for the statistical analysis, data management, quality control, and documentation that stand behind our psychometric and scoring work.
Partnering closely with psychometricians and researchers, who will help you grow into the science of educational measurement, you will analyze assessment data, run and validate item and test analyses, safeguard data quality, and communicate results clearly to technical and non-technical audiences alike. Just as important, you will draw out the insights our data holds and tell the story behind them, turning evidence into action that supports the work of educators across the region.
In parallel, you will sharpen how the team works, identifying the manual, repetitive steps in our analytic workflows and replacing them with reliable, repeatable routines that make psychometric and scoring processes faster, more consistent, and more reproducible. You will help build, test, and implement the data analytic cycles that sustain our digital-first assessments, partnering across teams to design the workflows and automated routines that keep them dependable and reusable.
In this role, you will:
Statistical Analysis & Data Management (35%)
- Acquire, wrangle, structure, and maintain assessment data so it is well-organized, accurate, and ready for analysis.
- Conduct statistical analyses of large assessment datasets using best practices, producing concise, insightful summaries that address research and business questions.
- Update and maintain the quality, structure, and features of assessment databases, and perform regular audits to protect data integrity.
Psychometric & Scoring Support (30%)
- Produce item and test analyses and their associated reports using a range of statistical and psychometric methods and models, in partnership with psychometricians.
- Analyze statistical and psychometric output to identify and quickly address anomalies, such as outliers, incorrect data layouts, misrouted scoring, misidentified keys, irregular item statistics, and similar issues.
- Execute and monitor test administration scoring activities, so they meet defined turnaround, accuracy, and QA standards.
- Partner with researchers and psychometricians on projects and analyses that require careful data processing and interpretation.
Quality Control, Documentation & Communication (20%)
- Apply rigorous quality-control and validation checks across analytic and scoring workflows, with strict attention to detail and accuracy.
- Create reproducible, well-documented analyses, with strong version control and traceability, that are transparent, defensible, and lend themselves to automation.
- Prepare memos, presentations, and reports that communicate complex concepts, processes, and findings in clear, actionable language for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Develop, design, and document operational procedures for recurring analytic and scoring tasks.
Workflow Automation & Modernization (15%)
- Work across teams to identify manual, repetitive, or error-prone steps in analytic and reporting workflows and build the capacity for report and process automation.
- Design and maintain scalable data pipelines that transform operational data into reliable, production-ready datasets.
- Develop and maintain scripts, queries, and repeatable validation routines (e.g., in R, Python, or SQL) that improve speed, consistency, and transparency.
- Partner with Technology and colleagues to implement practical workflow improvements and, where helpful, responsibly apply AI-enabled tools for QA, anomaly detection, and documentation.
About You
- Preferred master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Psychology, Education, or a related quantitative field; exceptional candidates with other degrees and relevant skills will be considered.
- 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in statistical analysis, data management, and data visualization, including the ability to apply established methods to new problems and domains.
- Demonstrated proficiency in a scripting/programming language and database querying (e.g., R, Python, SQL/MySQL).
- Proven proficiency in data wrangling, data visualization, data analysis, data interpretation, and report writing.
- Expertise in data and statistical analysis, paired with a talent for telling a clear, compelling story with your data.
- Experience running data validation checks, documenting workflows, troubleshooting data discrepancies, and improving the repeatability of analytic processes.
- A learner's mindset: eager to extend your statistical expertise into educational measurement and to pick up new methods along the way.
- A collaborative spirit: you have worked within a close-knit team and take real satisfaction in helping your colleagues succeed.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English required.
- The ability to travel 1-2 times a year on behalf of College Board business.
More About You (Preferred)
- Familiarity with structured and semi-structured data (CSV, relational tables, JSON) and cloud data environments (e.g., AWS).
- Experience working with Technology teams to define requirements for data tools, pipelines, dashboards, or workflow improvements.
- Comfort using AI-enabled tools for QA, anomaly detection, or documentation.
- Prior experience in education, assessment, credentialing, or a similarly rigorous testing environment.
- Working familiarity with educational-measurement concepts such as item analysis, classical test theory (CTT), or item response theory (IRT).
This position primarily involves sedentary work performed at a computer. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, communicate effectively, and operate standard office equipment.
All Roles at College Board Require
- A passion for expanding educational and career opportunities and mission-driven work.
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies, with a willingness to experiment with and adopt new AI-driven solutions and comfort learning and applying new digital tools independently and proactively.
- Clear and concise communication skills, written and verbal.
- A learner's mindset and a commitment to growth: welcoming diverse perspectives, giving and receiving timely, respectful feedback, and continuously improving through iterative learning and user input.
- A drive for impact and excellence: solving complex problems, making data-informed decisions, prioritizing what matters most, and continuously improving through learning, user input, and external benchmarking.
- A collaborative and empathetic approach: working across differences, fostering trust, and contributing to a culture of shared success.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
