Job description

Data Investigator (Python, SQL, Tableau Focus)
Contract Length: 12 months + potential extension
Location: Dallas, Texas - Hybrid (3 days onsite, downtown Dallas)
Our client is seeking a Data Investigator to support their Advanced Metering System (AMS) operations through advanced data analysis, troubleshooting, and insight generation. The ideal candidate will leverage Python, SQL, and Tableau to query, clean, and visualize complex datasets-identifying patterns, correlations, and root causes that drive operational improvements and business decisions.
This position involves working with meter asset, communication, energy, event, and customer service data to deliver data-driven insights and performance reporting. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot data discrepancies, enhance data pipelines, and develop dashboards that bring clarity to large-scale operational systems.
Qualifications
  • Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in data analysis, data investigation, or business analytics.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including libraries such as pandas, NumPy, matplotlib, and seaborn for data analysis and visualization.
  • Advanced SQL skills for querying, joining, and troubleshooting data across multiple relational databases.
  • Proven experience building interactive dashboards and reports in Tableau (Power BI experience is a plus).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify trends, correlations, and root causes within large datasets.
  • Familiarity with statistical techniques and pattern recognition methods for anomaly detection or performance monitoring.
  • Experience in data troubleshooting, pipeline validation, and data quality improvement.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex analytical findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, collaborative tools, and process documentation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Use Python for data extraction, troubleshooting, cleaning, and process automation.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries across multiple databases to retrieve, manipulate, and validate AMS-related data.
  • Develop and maintain Tableau dashboards and visualizations to surface key performance trends, correlations, and anomalies.
  • Identify and interpret patterns and relationships within large, complex datasets to support root-cause analysis and operational improvements.
  • Analyze meter processes, system synchronization, and data quality between systems such as CIS, AMS, and mobile workforce platforms.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to refine data collection and improve the accuracy and reliability of reporting.
  • Troubleshoot and validate data issues, recommending process improvements or corrective actions.
  • Document analytical methodologies, SQL logic, and Python workflows for knowledge sharing and reproducibility.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through automation, data integration, and enhanced analytical capability.
