Job description

Build a career where you can shape how a global financial institution uses data responsibly. You’ll join a highly visible team that enables analytics and machine learning innovation while safeguarding data as a strategic firm asset. In this role, you’ll influence senior stakeholders and partner closely with control and technology functions to set clear guardrails for data use. You’ll lead strategic initiatives that modernize governance processes and deliver measurable outcomes. If you enjoy solving ambiguous problems and driving change at scale, this role offers meaningful impact and strong growth opportunities.

Job Summary

As a Vice President, Data Governance – Data Use within the Chief Data Office for the Commercial & Investment Bank, you will lead data-use governance and risk management activities across global business lines. You will own end-to-end management of data-use cases, from intake and classification through review, decisioning, and ongoing monitoring. You will help set the strategy for responsible data use and drive execution across high-impact initiatives, balancing innovation with strong controls. You will work with us to improve governance processes, implement standards and risk-based frameworks, and maintain inventories that enable informed decision-making. You’ll collaborate with partners across legal, compliance, privacy, cybersecurity, technology, operations, and analytics to deliver outcomes that are clear, measurable, and sustainable.

You will operate in a dynamic environment where demand for data continues to grow and expectations around responsible use continue to evolve. You’ll translate complex governance and risk questions into practical decisions and scalable processes that teams can follow consistently. You will also lead transformation programs that strengthen how data-use risk is identified, escalated, documented, and monitored across the organization. This role requires executive-level communication, strong judgment, and the ability to drive alignment across diverse stakeholders. You’ll be trusted to set direction, manage priorities across multiple workstreams, and build momentum from concept through adoption.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead governance routines and forums to drive timely decisions, track actions, and improve transparency and accountability
  • Define objectives and deliver execution plans for strategic data governance and responsible data-use initiatives, managing dependencies and outcomes
  • Enhance governance processes and decision workflows to improve scalability, consistency, and speed while maintaining appropriate controls
  • Partner with senior stakeholders to shape and prioritize initiatives aligned to evolving business, regulatory, and data governance needs
  • Drive transformation efforts from concept through implementation, including problem framing, stakeholder alignment, adoption, and change management
  • Translate complex governance and risk topics into clear recommendations, materials, and updates for senior leadership
  • Coordinate cross-functional deliverables (plans, task lists, presentations) and ensure follow-through across stakeholders
  • Ensure effective engagement with legal, compliance, privacy, cybersecurity, technology, and control partners to establish data-use guardrails
  • Maintain and mature a centralized inventory of data use (including third-party use) to support calibrated, well-documented decisions
  • Implement standards, protocols, and a risk-based framework that supports decentralized identification and consistent escalation of data-use cases
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
  • 10 years of financial services experience with demonstrated depth in data governance, risk management, and controls
  • Experience managing and developing small to mid-sized teams
  • Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from strategy through execution and deliver measurable outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to structure ambiguous problems and drive decisions aligned to business and control objectives
  • Executive presence with a track record of influencing senior stakeholders across diverse functions
  • Strong partnership skills and the ability to mobilize resources across a large, matrixed organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including senior-ready materials and messaging
  • Strong organizational skills, including prioritization across multiple concurrent workstreams
  • Sound risk awareness and disciplined control mindset
  • Proficiency with presentation and spreadsheet tools (PowerPoint, Excel)
  • High attention to detail with the ability to work independently under time pressure
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
  • Strong data quality and data management experience, with excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Familiarity with products and processes in a global investment banking and markets environment
  • Demonstrated ability to create structure, define standards, and drive adoption at scale
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; business analysis and reporting experience is a plus
