Jackson Parish Hospital is currently seeking a PRN Patient Access Representative.


SUMMARY:

The Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors entering Jackson Parish Hospital registration areas including the emergency department, outpatient services, and clinics. This position is responsible for accurately registering patients, verifying demographic and insurance information, obtaining required signatures, collecting applicable payments, and supporting a positive patient experience while maintaining compliance with hospital policies and HIPAA.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • One year's experience in hospital admissions, healthcare registration, medical office, customer service, or clerical experience preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records and insurance verification preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • None

LANGUAGE and PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • ย Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • ย Strong written and verbal skills.
  • ย Excellent attention to detail and data entry accuracy.
  • ย Proficiency in medical terminology preferred.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Register patients for inpatient, outpatient, emergency room, laboratory, radiology, and specialty services.
  • Verify and update patient demographic information at every visit.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements.
  • Collect co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding patient balances when applicable.
  • Obtain required consent forms and patient signatures. Communicates clearly with the patient regarding paperwork to be signed.
  • Ensure accurate data entry into the hospital's electronic health record (EMR).
  • Explain registration procedures, financial responsibilities, and hospital policies to patients.
  • Assist patients with financial assistance applications and payment options when appropriate.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff, physicians, and other departments to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • ย Courteous to patients, visitors, and staff; treats all patients, visitors, and staff with respect and dignity.
  • ย Answers telephone calls and assist with scheduling, referrals, and general patient inquiries.
  • ย Scan and upload patient documentation into electronic medical records.
  • ย Resolve registration and insurance issues in a timely manner.
  • ย Assist with bedside registration for patients unable to register at the front desk.
  • ย Obtain information from family members or authorized representatives when patients cannot provide information themselves.
  • ย Checks email daily. Stays logged into Microsoft teams to openly communicate with co-workers/supervisors throughout the day.
  • ย Completes any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • ย Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time frames.
  • ย Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
  • ย Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
