Responsibilities

Backyard Bookkeeper is looking for new senior bookkeepers to join our team. As a member of our accounting team, you will be keeping the books (data entry, reconciliation, review, financial statements) for a handful of regular clients, taking responsibility for enterprise clients with more complex financial reporting, as well as helping with incoming large projects that require cleanup or setup before we can transition them to "maintenance mode" bookkeeping.


This is a w-2 position and requires you to sign a non-compete agreement.


You will be working from home, although we have in-person team lunches quarterly and two annual company events. We are looking for residents of Utah, but we may consider out-of-state candidates on a case by case basis.
Qualifications

  • Daytime availability for meetings and client calls. Even though you can do most of the work whenever you want, you must have regular availability during regular business hours in order to communicate with your clients and participate in team meetings and training. In addition, our training is pretty hands-on, and there will be more required daytime Zoom meetings for the first 2-4 months of your employment.
  • Prepared to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. There is an option to increase to 35-40 hours per week over time.
  • Good at managing multiple ongoing projects across several clients.
  • Able to provide good, consistent service to clients who are sometimes assertive and demanding.
  • At least three years of full-charge accounting experience in a small business environment (including data entry, A/R, A/P, reconciliations, etc).
  • Thorough understanding of general accounting/double-entry bookkeeping principles, comfortable making journal entries correctly.
  • Excellent communication skills, including through email, phone, video chat, and other online media; be able to respond to messages within one business day.
  • Self-motivated, able to work effectively under deadlines without much supervision, excellent follow-through.
  • Have your own computer with a number pad, headset, and webcam, along with a good internet connection.
  • Type at least 50 WPM, not afraid of data entry (sometimes it gets tedious, but we do our best to mix it up with more interesting work).
  • Generally tech savvy on computers, Windows, Microsoft Office, and internet; able to learn new software quickly.

  • We currently have an office location in Sandy, Utah. You are welcome to take advantage of the office space if you prefer to work outside of your home office some of the time.
