INTERN, GIS (La Crosse, WI)

Hourly Wage: $18.00 Anticipated Start Date: ASAP

Learn about Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and assist with GIS projects.

The Impact You Will Make in This Role:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Work in a team environment to learn about GIS while conducting basic spatial analysis, queries, and data visualization to support departmental projects.

  • Assist with the creation, updating, editing, and maintenance of geospatial datasets using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related tools.

  • Perform data entry, digitizing, and compilation of spatial features from various sources (e.g., easement documents, as-builts, field notes, online sources).

  • Perform QA/QC on GIS data and assist in resolving data discrepancies.

  • Provide GIS support to other departments (e.g., Real Estate and Right of Way, Environmental, Vegetation Management, Telecommunications, Economic Development) as needed.

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to ongoing GIS improvement initiatives.

Your Experience and Expertise:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience: Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a closely related field with a strong emphasis in GIS.

Skills: Microsoft Office and ESRI suite of software a must. ACAD experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver's License.

Physical Demands: Extended periods of viewing a computer monitor, with extensive keyboard and mouse usage. Requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting (25 lbs.) and bending. Must be able to traverse rough terrain.

Environmental Demands: Individual will work primarily indoors at a computer station with some field work required.

Other Job Characteristics: Ability to communicate effectively with Dairyland employees, Member Cooperatives, and work in a team environment.
