Job description

Senior Data Engineer - Python / PostgreSQL / Docker
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help design, build, and evolve scalable data platforms and data products in a fast-moving environment. This is a hands-on role for someone who combines strong engineering fundamentals with practical data platform experience and a bias toward data quality, scalability, and maintainability.
The right candidate will bring deep experience building data systems and warehouses, working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, and operating with the flexibility needed in an early-stage or fast-evolving environment. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working across Python (or Ruby), PostgreSQL, Docker, and Bash, with cloud exposure in Azure and ideally some familiarity with AWS Athena, Lambda, Glue, or batch compute jobs.
Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated industries is strongly valued.
What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data platforms, pipelines, and data products
  • Develop and optimize data workflows using Python (or Ruby), PostgreSQL, Docker, and Bash
  • Build data solutions with a strong focus on data quality, reliability, scalability, and maintainability
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to understand data needs and translate them into robust technical solutions
  • Contribute to the design and evolution of data warehouses and platform architecture
  • Support cloud-based data engineering solutions in Azure, with exposure to AWS Athena, Lambda, Glue, and batch compute jobs as a plus
  • Help improve engineering standards, tooling, and best practices across the data environment
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment where priorities may evolve and pragmatic problem-solving is important
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to balance speed, scale, and long-term platform health
  • Explore and adopt modern productivity tools, including AI-assisted development tools, where they improve engineering effectiveness

What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer or in a closely related software/data engineering role
  • Proven experience designing and building data platforms and data warehouses
  • Strong hands-on proficiency with Python or Ruby
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Docker
  • Willingness and ability to work with Bash
  • Cloud experience in Azure
  • Familiarity with AWS Athena and compute services such as batch jobs, Lambda, and Glue is a plus
  • Strong track record of designing systems with a focus on data quality and scalability
  • Experience working effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience in healthcare or another highly regulated industry
  • Strong collaboration skills and a practical, team-oriented approach
  • Interest in or experience using AI productivity tools in engineering workflows

What Makes Your Candidacy Stand Out
  • Experience building in startup or early-stage environments
  • Strong engineering habits and a pragmatic approach to solving ambiguous problems
  • Comfort moving between platform design, coding, troubleshooting, and stakeholder collaboration
  • Experience improving data reliability and trust in environments where quality and compliance matter
  • Intellectual curiosity about how AI is changing engineering workflow
