General program information and/or position overview.

Leidos is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the Data Engineer role to support the United States Space Force (USSF) in the design, development, test, and deployment of defensive cyber capabilities.  A successful candidate should have a deep understanding of defensive cyber technologies and policy, the relevant stakeholders and their equities, and be a leader and problem solver with a proven ability to deliver superior results as part of a high performing team in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing data infrastructure, landscape, and security posture to create a data strategy roadmap
  • Build an action plan in a Microsoft tool that is executable by the US Space Force
  • Build and maintain an action plan for data collection, storage, and analysis
  • Ensure cross-functional collaboration by partnering with the Data Strategist to support data infrastructure and mission needs

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires BS and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience, additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree
  • Understanding of Data Security and access controls in accordance with the DoD and Air Force Data Strategy policies and procedures
  • Has designed and maintained data architecture, models, schemas and data warehouses
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, with experience creating executive-level operational reports and briefings
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior leaders
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work “in the weeds” with data
  • Understanding of organizational data governance
  • Understanding of the DoD and Air Force Data Strategy policies and procedures
  • General understanding of data analytics
  • Strong understanding of data lifecycle and layers required to process data from ingestion to visualization
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Grafana, Apache Superset, Tableau, and Power BI
  • U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current/active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Advanced technical expertise with demonstrated architectural decision making and project leadership
  • 5 to 7+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, analytics engineering or data platform development
  • Deep production level expertise with cloud data platforms and warehouses like snowflake, AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure
  • Relevant cloud platform and data ecosystem certifications
