Job Description

The Sr Engineer - Mechanical designs functional, reliable and cost effective, heavy duty vehicle components. Perform engineering analysis and design or re-design, and development of components into existing and new vehicles. Provide integration and execution support for vehicle and component design.

This role supports the Cost Management team, working across JLG and Jerr-Dan products. The role applies engineering analysis, design optimization, process improvement, and VA/VE practices to help deliver competitive, sustainable solutions while maintaining product performance, quality, safety, reliability, and customer value. This position provides broad exposure across multiple products, functions, and business priorities while contributing to a more proactive, data-driven team.

YOUR IMPACT
  • Under supervision, perform engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh as well as general industry engineering standards and processes.
  • Support more senior engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, computation methods, and/or reporting.
  • Responsible for projects or portions of projects with defined scope, technical complexity, and cross-functional impact.
  • Support initiatives that improve product competitiveness through engineering analysis, design optimization, benchmarking, and VA/VE practices.
  • Coordinate with onsite and off-shore engineering resources to support machine tear-down evaluations, benchmarking, technical assessments, documentation, and recommendation development.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within engineering and across other business functions to identify, evaluate, prioritize, and implement technical solutions that improve product value and competitiveness.
  • Manage multiple concurrent Cost Management initiatives with strong organization, prioritization, communication, and follow-through.
  • Contribute to the development of improved processes, tools, documentation, and project execution practices that support a more proactive and data-driven team.
  • Provide guidance or mentorship to entry level engineers, designers, or technicians working on a common project.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.
  • Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted within the framework of company policies and procedures.
  • Perform and direct preparation of layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Perform engineering analysis to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements.
  • Evaluate alternative materials, components, processes, and design approaches to support practical, technically sound product improvements.
  • Provide technical assistance for production support.
  • Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
  • Create and maintain project documentation for analysis, research, and historical records.
  • Utilize analytical and mathematical approaches to calculate or model system performance and optimize designs.
  • Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering and communicate status via verbal or written communication.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with three (3) or more years of related experience.
STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS
  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle equipment and related systems.
  • Experience with a high level CAD system.
  • Experience with value analysis/value engineering, product benchmarking, tear-down analysis, design optimization, product cost management, or similar technical improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working across multiple product platforms, product families, or vehicle systems.
  • Experience coordinating with off-shore engineering teams, technical centers, suppliers, or globally distributed project teams.
  • Experience working with bills of material, costed BOMs, component cost drivers, supplier quotations, or manufacturing process considerations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, drive follow-through, and work effectively in a cross-functional environment.

Pay Range:

$73,200.00 - $117,800.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
