What is a data engineer CDP?

Data Engineer CDPs (Customer Data Platforms) are professionals who specialize in designing, building, and maintaining data infrastructure for customer data platforms. They are responsible for collecting, processing, and integrating large volumes of customer data from multiple sources to ensure that the data is accurate, clean, and accessible for marketing, analytics, and business intelligence. Their work enables organizations to create unified customer profiles and deliver personalized experiences across channels. Data Engineer CDPs often work closely with data scientists, analysts, and marketers to support data-driven strategies and compliance with privacy regulations.

How do data engineer CDPs typically collaborate with marketing and analytics teams?

Data Engineers in CDP environments frequently collaborate with marketing and analytics teams to ensure data pipelines are optimized for campaign personalization and customer insights. They translate business requirements into technical solutions, enabling real-time data integration and accessibility for non-technical users. Regular communication is essential to align on data quality, privacy compliance, and the evolving needs of user segmentation, making teamwork and clear documentation key to success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data engineer CDP, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Engineer CDP, you need strong expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and database management, often backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud data platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or GCP), experience in programming languages like Python or Scala, and certifications in specific CDP tools (like Cloudera or Snowflake) are typically required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are critical soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and translating business needs into technical solutions. These skills ensure robust, scalable data architectures and enable efficient data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Job description

Bounteous is a global AI Services firm where agentic engineering and human experience converge to deliver transformative business outcomes for the enterprise. We help organizations design, build, and scale AI-driven products, platforms, and processes. With more than 5,000 team members worldwide, Bounteous delivers AI that sticks, powering adoption and outcomes that move organizations from experimentation to true transformation. Bounteous is backed by New Mountain Capital, a New York-based growth-oriented investment firm that emphasizes business building.

Bounteous is seeking a CDP Engineer specializing in Adobe Real-Time CDP (RTCDP) and Adobe Experience Platform (AEP) to support data ingestion, identity resolution, and profile creation for a large-scale consumer telecommunications client. This hands-on technical role focuses on configuring data flows, mapping datasets to XDM schemas, ensuring high-quality Profile-enabled datasets, and supporting segmentation and activation accuracy across channels.

The CDP Engineer will work closely with the CDP Architect, data engineering teams, consultants, and marketing activation teams to ensure that AEP and the RTCDP instance is properly configured, performant, and governed. This role emphasizes data engineering within AEP and RTCDP, including ingestion, transformation, validation, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, analytical, and deeply familiar with RTCDP mechanics, data structures, and operational workflows.

Information Security Responsibilities
  • Promote and enforce awareness of key information security practices, including acceptable use of information assets, malware protection, and password security protocols
  • Identify, assess, and report security risks, focusing on how these risks impact the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets
  • Understand and evaluate how data is stored, processed, or transmitted, ensuring compliance with data privacy and protection standards (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
  • Ensure data protection measures are integrated throughout the information lifecycle to safeguard sensitive information
Role and Responsibilities:
  • Refine, implement, configure, and maintain XDM schemas, datasets, and dataset mappings within Adobe AEP and RTCDP.

  • Implement and transform data using ingestion pipelines including batch, streaming, SDK and API, ensuring all adhere to architectural and privacy standards and real-world data mappings.

  • Work with the Solution Architect to implement data transformations, data prep rules, and identity stitching logic.

  • Enable datasets for Profile, ensuring data quality, completeness, and consistency.

  • Build and maintain identity resolution frameworks, including namespaces, linkages, and profile merging.

  • Assist with segmentation readiness by validating attributes, events, audiences, and identity availability.

  • Configure destination connectors and support activation flows across marketing and analytics ecosystems.

  • Develop and execute data validation processes including anomaly detection, schema validation, and identity checks.

  • Troubleshoot ingestion failures, mapping errors, identity conflicts, and segmentation issues.

  • Maintain documentation for data flows, datasets, mappings, and governance controls.

  • Configure and manage AEP sandboxes for development, testing, and production environments.

  • Partner with privacy and governance teams to implement role based access, consent management, and compliance workflows.

  • Work with Consultants, Data Scientists, and Analysts to write queries and enable segmentation, reporting, and ML model readiness.

  • Integrate RTCDP with downstream systems for activation across marketing, analytics, and personalization platforms.

  • Assist marketing activation teams in ensuring proper data availability for audiences and personalization.

  • Support CDP Architect in designing scalable, governed data models and ingestion frameworks.

  • Contribute to continuous improvements in CDP automation, process efficiency, and operational best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3 to 5 or more years of experience in data engineering, MarTech engineering, or CDP operations.

  • 2 or more years of hands-on Adobe RTCDP experience, including ingestion, transformation, identity resolution, and activation.

  • Working knowledge of core Adobe services, such as Adobe Source Connectors, Streaming & Batch Ingestion, Data Prep and Query Service.

  • Strong understanding of XDM schemas, dataset configuration, and Profile enablement.

  • Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with ETL or ELT processing, data pipelines, and cloud based data platforms.

  • Experience with APIs, Adobe I/O Runtime, Web SDK, and streaming data ingestion.

  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or SQL.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

  • Experience with Snowflake, Salesforce CDP, Segment, Redshift, or BigQuery is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of consent, privacy, and data governance structures including GDPR and CCPA.

  • Experience in Adobe Experience Cloud (AJO, Analytics, Target) is preferred but not required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
