What are Data Engineer CDPs?

Data Engineer CDPs (Customer Data Platforms) are professionals who specialize in designing, building, and maintaining data infrastructure for customer data platforms. They are responsible for collecting, processing, and integrating large volumes of customer data from multiple sources to ensure that the data is accurate, clean, and accessible for marketing, analytics, and business intelligence. Their work enables organizations to create unified customer profiles and deliver personalized experiences across channels. Data Engineer CDPs often work closely with data scientists, analysts, and marketers to support data-driven strategies and compliance with privacy regulations.

How do Data Engineers working with Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) typically collaborate with marketing and analytics teams?

Data Engineers in CDP environments frequently collaborate with marketing and analytics teams to ensure data pipelines are optimized for campaign personalization and customer insights. They translate business requirements into technical solutions, enabling real-time data integration and accessibility for non-technical users. Regular communication is essential to align on data quality, privacy compliance, and the evolving needs of user segmentation, making teamwork and clear documentation key to success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Engineer CDP, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Engineer CDP, you need strong expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and database management, often backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud data platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or GCP), experience in programming languages like Python or Scala, and certifications in specific CDP tools (like Cloudera or Snowflake) are typically required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are critical soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and translating business needs into technical solutions. These skills ensure robust, scalable data architectures and enable efficient data-driven decision-making across the organization.

If this sounds exciting to you, let's chat!
ADOBE (AEP) ARCHITECT
What experience should you have:
  • 10+ years in enterprise data, MarTech, or digital architecture roles.
  • 3+ years of experience within the Adobe Experience Platform, including one or more: RT-CDP, Journey Optimizer (AJO), Customer Journey Analytics (CJA), Web SDK.
  • Ability to work with JSON structures, SQL (via AEP Query Service/Data Distiller), and REST APIs.
  • Expert-level knowledge of XDM (Experience Data Model) and Identity Namespaces.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Experience Platform Web SDK (Alloy.js) and server-side data collection.
  • Experience leading client discovery sessions, translating "marketing speak" into technical requirements, and presenting to executive stakeholders.

Nice to have:
  • Experience in consultancy environments.
  • Adobe certifications (RT-CDP, AJO, CJA).
  • Knowledge of data privacy frameworks.

What you'll be doing in this role:
  • You will own the technical roadmap for AEP implementations, defining how data flows from ingestion (streaming/batch) to activation.
  • You aren't just drawing boxes; you will lead the setup of schemas, datasets, identity stitching rules, and merge policies within the AEP interface.
  • Architecting the frameworks for DULE (Data Usage Labeling & Enforcement), consent strings, and PII management to ensure compliant data usage.
  • Designing the "connective tissue" between AEP and the broader stack, including Snowflake/Databricks, CRM systems (Salesforce/MS Dynamics), and advertising destinations.
  • Reviewing the work of engineers and consultants to ensure implementation matches the architectural blueprint and Adobe best practices.

What you'll need to accomplish in your first year:
  • Lead the architectural design and oversee the successful "Go-Live" of at least two enterprise-scale AEP deployments.
  • Develop and document internal Further "Playbooks" for AEP schema design and identity resolution to streamline future client work.
  • Serve as the go-to expert for complex troubleshooting, helping pods navigate difficult profile-stitching or data-latency issues.
