Data Center Chief Engineer

What this Job involves:

This positionis responsible formanaging a team of data center engineers at a large hyperscale data center campus. The role focuses on ensuring safe and efficient operations,maintainingsiteequipmentand maintaining 100% uptime. The right person willdemonstrateexpertisein one specific area while being multi-skilled in others to successfully complete daily work assignments.

Your day-to-day tasks will include:

People Management

  • Ensure your team is completing training as assigned.

  • Manage day-to-day HR issues,escalatingas necessary.

  • Performancemanagedirect reports through the JLLQuality Conversations process.

  • Maintain a schedule of Sync meetings with direct reports.

  • At a minimum,discussingareas for the employee to improve on and areas where the employee is meeting/exceeding expectations.

  • Write and deliver both the annual performance review and rating.

  • Participate inperformancerating calibration process.

  • Participate in the hiring process.

  • Ensuresitehasappropriate shiftcoverage tomaintainall critical environment spaces.

Safety

  • Complete hazard assessments as necessary

  • Comply withall safety procedures,maintaininggood housekeeping and safety work areas. Recognize danger and safety hazards and propose methods toeliminatethem.

  • Maintain compliancewithall local AHJ ordinance, codes, and laws.

  • Complete all required safetytrainingas scheduled.

Operations

  • Oversee and implement the MOP creation process.

  • Operate andmaintainthe critical equipment to ensure the campus achieves 100% uptime, whilemaintainingconcurrently maintainable status.

  • Coordinate with planner scheduler to complete all preventative and corrective maintenance.

  • Utilize manufacturer operations manuals (O&Ms) to help create and implement trainingcurriculafor the stie operations teams to include:

  • Electrical distribution equipment such as: Emergency Generators, HV/MV/LV switchgears, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), Battery Energy Storage Uninterruptible Power Supplies (BESSUPS), Power Distribution Units (PDUs), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), or any other needed systems.

  • Mechanical plant equipment such as: Air Cooled Chiller plant, Fan Walls, Computer Room Air Conditioning/Handler (CRAC/CRAH),Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU), Direct Expansion Units (DX), Make-up Air Units (MUA), Dedicated Outside Air Supply (DOAS),Exhaust fans, etc.

  • Controlsand Network systems: BMS and EPMS systems, internal networks, and system telemetry flows,BACNetandModBuscommunications protocols.

  • Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence efforts,reporting onas found conditionsimpactingsatisfactory client occupancy and operations.

Incident Management

  • Be the first point of contact for service impacting events involving the mechanical plant.

  • Assistthe team in troubleshooting and mitigating incidents.

  • Assistin the creation of root cause analysis (RCAs).

  • Participate in RCA presentations to the customer management team.

  • Be available for after-hourssupportregardingthe mechanical plant.

  • This includes24x7response.

Administrative

  • UtilizeCorrigo (CMMS) for all work performed.

  • Ensure prompt andaccuratework order updates.

  • Escalate any customerimpactingincident'sin accordance withcontract SLAs.

  • Attend any work or safety meetings asrequired.

  • Any and allotherduties asassigned by your manager.

Physical Work requirements

  • Lifting upto 80 lbs.

  • Working from heights.

  • Frequently climbing, bending, lifting, kneeling, stooping, and working/extending overhead.

  • Working in adverse conditions (i.e., extreme cold, extreme hot).

  • Driving forlong periodsof time.

  • Climbing a ladder with a 300lbweight limit while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs.

  • Climbing a ladder up to 30 feet.

Desired experience and technical skills -

Required:

  • 4+ years of technical experience in building engineering with a strong background in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and production equipment repair and maintenance

  • Experience working in Data Centers/Raised Floor Environment

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Universal EPA 608 Certification

  • Licenses as required by authority havingjurisdiction

  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excelas well as Google Suite applications.

  • 2 years of trades school or documented apprenticeship in relevant craft skills

  • Validdriverslicense

Preferred:

  • Expertisein one specific craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations, Material Handling Equipment)

  • Familiarity with building automation systems and fire/life safety systems
