Overview

Alarm.com is seeking a DevOps Engineer to help support, automate, and operate the core platforms that power our data and application ecosystem. This role is a hands-on engineering position working across a diverse set of messaging, database, caching, search, and analytics technologies in on-premises, Kubernetes, and cloud environments.

The ideal candidate brings a solid base experience in DevOps practices, automation, and production operations, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement. This role will collaborate closely with teams across Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Infrastructure, Cloud Engineering, Security, and Architecture to help deliver stable, well-managed, and highly available services.

Key Responsibilities

- Support, implement, and help automate enterprise data platforms and messaging infrastructure across hybrid environments.

- Assist in maintaining the reliability, scalability, performance, and operational health of platforms such as Kafka/Confluent, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, Snowflake, Redis, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.

- Contribute to Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, and deployment automation efforts to improve consistency and efficiency.

- Partner with engineering and infrastructure teams to follow best practices for provisioning, deployment, monitoring, patching, and lifecycle management.

- Support platform deployments, migrations, upgrades, and maintenance activities.

- Help build and maintain observability capabilities including monitoring, alerting, logging, and telemetry.

- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement fixes with guidance where needed.

- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automation practices that improve release quality and operational efficiency.

- Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.

- Participate in on-call rotation and incident response efforts to support service reliability.

- Work with security teams to ensure adherence to standards for access management, encryption, and compliance.

Qualifications

- 2–5 years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, or a related technical field.

- Experience with Kubernetes is a plus, particularly with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and deploying or supporting containerized workloads.

- Experience working with one or more enterprise platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, Snowflake, Redis, or relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server).

- Familiarity with cloud and infrastructure environments such as AWS, Azure, or VMware.

- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar.

- Exposure to containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

- Working knowledge of Linux systems administration; Windows Server experience is a plus.

- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or similar platforms.

- Exposure to CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar.

- Basic scripting or programming skills in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.

- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
