What is a data destruction?

A Data Destruction job involves securely erasing, shredding, or otherwise eliminating sensitive digital or physical data to prevent unauthorized access or recovery. Professionals in this field use specialized software, degaussers, or physical destruction methods to ensure compliance with data privacy laws and regulations. This role is essential for companies handling sensitive information, such as financial records, personal data, or proprietary business information.

What does a data destruction do?

In a data destruction role, your daily tasks often include receiving, inventorying, and securely destroying hard drives, storage devices, or physical documents using approved methods and equipment. You'll document each step to comply with regulatory and client requirements, sometimes providing certificates of destruction. The position typically requires close collaboration with IT teams, logistics staff, and sometimes external vendors to ensure all data is handled according to company policies and legal standards. Attention to confidentiality and following detailed protocols are a must, as you may regularly encounter sensitive information.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in data destruction, and why are they important?

To excel in Data Destruction, you need a keen understanding of data privacy regulations, strong attention to detail, and experience with secure data wiping or physical destruction techniques, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with industry tools such as degaussers, shredders, and software-based erasure solutions, as well as certifications like NAID AAA or CompTIA Security+, is often preferred. Dependability, integrity, and clear communication are vital soft skills, as trustworthiness and adherence to strict protocols are essential in this role. These capabilities ensure sensitive data is completely and compliantly destroyed, protecting organizational and customer information from breach or misuse.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Electromechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical and electromechanical design of our next-generation data destruction platforms. You will own the full product design lifecycle - from concept through production - collaborating with engineering, operations, and product leadership to bring best-in-class security hardware to market. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for a builder who takes pride in precision engineering and durable, manufacturable design.

What You'll Own:-

  • Lead mechanical and electromechanical design of shredders, crushers, and related destruction hardware from concept through production release

  • Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks with strict adherence to GD&T

  • Perform FEA and structural analysis to validate designs against load, fatigue, and safety requirements

  • Integrate motors, sensors, hydraulic/pneumatic components, and control wiring into mechanical assemblies

  • Author and manage ECOs, BOMs, and product documentation through PLM systems

  • Own design verification and validation activities; resolve field issues and support service teams

Required:-

  • 10+ years of electromechanical product design experience in a manufacturing environment

  • 5+ years of hands-on SolidWorks - advanced assemblies, drawings, configurations, and PDM

  • Deep command of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and manufacturing tolerancing

  • Demonstrated DFM/DFA practice reducing cost and improving yield in production

  • FEA experience (SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent)

  • Experience integrating motors, sensors, and wiring harnesses into mechanical systems

  • Familiarity with ECO/PLM workflows and change management processes

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field)

Preferred

  • Experience in data destruction, industrial security, or defense hardware

  • Familiarity with DIN 66399, NIST 800-88, or NAID AAA standards

  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
