Description

The Assistant Volleyball Coach is responsible for supporting the mission of Saint Mary's College by assisting in the development and administration of a successful NCAA Division III athletics program. This full-time, 10-month position works closely with the Head Coach to foster student-athlete success both academically and athletically while promoting the values of Saint Mary's College, the NCAA Division III philosophy, and the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).

The Assistant Coach provides instruction and mentorship to student-athletes, assists with recruiting, practice planning, game preparation, player development, and program administration. This position also supports departmental initiatives and serves as a positive representative of the Athletics Department and the College.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Understanding of NCAA Division III rules and regulations. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications. 
  • Ability to successfully complete the NCAA Division III Rules Test. 
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, student-athletes, faculty, and staff. 
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and positive student-athlete experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous collegiate coaching experience. 
  • Experience recruiting student-athletes in an NCAA environment. 
  • Knowledge of video analysis, scouting, and statistical analysis. 
  • Experience supporting student-athlete academic success.  
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive team culture. 

Schedule

Full-time, 10-month position

Work schedule includes days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required by practices, competitions, recruiting activities, team travel, and other departmental responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to develop and implement all aspects of a successful NCAA Division III athletics program.  
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture. 
  • Coach and teach sport-specific skills during practices and competitions. 
  • Coordinate player development through skill enhancement and individualized instruction. 
  • Assist with practice planning, game strategy, scouting, and video analysis. 
  • Analyze game film and statistical data to improve individual and team performance. 
  • Conduct pre-season, in-season, and post-season player evaluations. 
  • Assist with recruiting academically and athletically qualified student-athletes. 
  • Monitor student-athlete academic progress and encourage academic excellence. 
  • Coordinate administrative responsibilities including team travel, food orders, equipment, apparel inventory, and purchasing. 
  • Maintain NCAA, MIAA, and institutional compliance while working with the Athletics Compliance Director. 
  • Maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications. 
  • Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a mandatory reporter in accordance with College policy. 
  • Perform additional Athletics Department duties as assigned, including: 
    • Game Day Manager 
    • Game Day Experience Coordinator 
    • Home event concession coordination
