What are Data Cleaners?

Data Cleaners are professionals who specialize in identifying and correcting errors, inconsistencies, and inaccuracies in datasets to ensure the information is accurate, complete, and ready for analysis. Their work involves tasks such as removing duplicate records, filling in missing values, standardizing formats, and validating data against predefined rules. Data Cleaners play a crucial role in maintaining data quality, which is essential for reliable data analysis and decision-making in organizations.

What are some typical challenges faced by Data Cleaners when working with large datasets, and how can they be addressed?

Data Cleaners often encounter challenges such as inconsistent data formats, missing values, and duplicate records, especially when handling large datasets from multiple sources. Addressing these issues requires a solid understanding of data validation techniques and the use of specialized tools or programming languages like Python or SQL. Collaboration with data analysts or database administrators is also essential to clarify data requirements and resolve complex discrepancies, ensuring the cleaned data meets the organization's standards for analysis and reporting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Cleaner, and why are they important?

To excel as a Data Cleaner, you need a solid understanding of data management principles, attention to detail, and proficiency in data analysis, often supported by a degree in a quantitative field. Familiarity with data cleaning tools such as Microsoft Excel, Python (Pandas), SQL, and sometimes specialized ETL software is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, patience, and the ability to communicate data issues clearly set outstanding Data Cleaners apart. These skills ensure that data is accurate, consistent, and reliable, which is crucial for effective analysis and business decision-making.

Samba

New York, NY • On-site

Full-time

Job description

Samba is a media intelligence company. We know what the world is watching, reading, and thinking about — in real time, at scale, across every screen. Our data exists with the consent of over a billion people, organized into the most complete picture of consumer attention ever built. The biggest brands in the world use that picture to make smarter decisions. We think it’s the most interesting data asset on the planet, because it’s the most culturally relevant.

Data clean rooms are redefining how the industry transacts on data. As signal loss accelerates and privacy regulation tightens, clean rooms have emerged as the primary vehicle for brands to connect their first-party data with Samba's unparalleled TV viewership and web intelligence—without either party exposing raw data. You'll ensure Samba's clean room products, and the applications built with the clean room, are the most capable, accessible, and trusted in the market.
What You'll Do
  • Own the end-to-end product roadmap for Samba's data clean room capabilities, including partner integrations, query frameworks, and privacy controls
  • Define requirements for secure data collaboration workflows—from data ingestion and matching to privacy-safe query execution and results delivery
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, data science, legal/data governance, sales, client success, and your product colleagues to prioritize clean room capabilities that drive new revenue and deepen client partnerships
  • Build and maintain integrations with leading clean room platforms including AWS Clean Rooms, DataBricks, Snowflake Data Clean Rooms, Google Ads Data Hub, InfoSum, and Habu
  • Translate complex privacy-enhancing technologies—differential privacy, secure multi-party computation, federated learning—into practical product capabilities that clients can actually use
  • Partner with product colleagues, sales, and solutions teams to develop repeatable clean room use cases around insights, audience discovery, reach and frequency measurement, campaign attribution, and competitive conquesting
  • Stay ahead of regulatory and industry shifts, including evolving frameworks around data residency, consent management, and privacy-safe collaboration standards
  • Define clear success metrics for clean room adoption, query volume, match rates, and client satisfaction—and hold the team accountable to them
Who You Are
  • 3–5+ years of product management experience in ad tech, data platforms, or privacy-focused data infrastructure
  • Deep familiarity with data clean room platforms and privacy-enhancing technologies, and how they're being used across the advertising ecosystem
  • Strong understanding of the modern data stack—cloud data warehouses, identity resolution, first-party data activation, and measurement methodologies
  • Experience shipping complex data products that required collaboration across engineering, legal, and commercial stakeholders
  • Ability to distill technically dense concepts—MPC, differential privacy, query sandboxing—into clear client-facing value propositions and product specs
  • Track record of executing in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where the market and the technology are both still evolving
  • Hustler mentality: you build conviction quickly, move fast, and know how to bring skeptics along
