Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an Onsite Design Project Manager to support large-scale data center construction projects. Unlike a traditional construction management role, this position is focused specifically on the design side of project delivery and serves as the onsite extension of the Design Manager and broader Owner's Representative team. The successful candidate will act as the "eyes and ears" of the design team in the field, helping coordinate design-related activities, supporting communication between design and construction teams, and ensuring architectural and engineering intent is executed correctly throughout the project lifecycle. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being onsite, understands construction environments, and can effectively collaborate with contractors, engineers, architects, and project stakeholders while maintaining a design-focused perspective.

Key Responsibilities

Design Coordination & Owner Representation

  • Serve as the onsite representative for the design management team.
  • Support architects, engineers, consultants, and project stakeholders throughout design implementation.
  • Monitor field activities and identify design-related issues that may impact project execution.
  • Facilitate communication between design teams and construction teams.
  • Support the review and coordination of design deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist with drawing reviews, design clarifications, and resolution of field conditions.

RFI & Submittal Management

  • Review and help coordinate Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Support submittal reviews and document workflows.
  • Track open design issues and ensure timely responses from appropriate stakeholders.
  • Help identify discrepancies between design intent and field execution.
  • Coordinate closely with contractors and consultants to facilitate issue resolution.

Field Observation & Site Coordination

  • Maintain a regular presence in the field to observe construction progress.
  • Monitor contractor execution relative to approved design documents.
  • Attend coordination meetings and communicate design-related concerns appropriately.
  • Understand site logistics, safety requirements, and operational considerations.
  • Document project observations and communicate findings to project leadership.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate logs, action items, and project records.
  • Develop and distribute project updates and status reports.
  • Assist with coordination of design reviews and stakeholder meetings.
  • Support document management and project controls processes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with construction managers, contractors, engineers, architects, and client stakeholders.
  • Maintain a collaborative approach while providing technical guidance and recommendations.
  • Advise and influence project teams without creating conflict or directing construction means and methods.
  • Promote a solutions-oriented and team-first project culture.

Technology & Software Requirements

Candidates should be comfortable working within a modern

project delivery environment and regularly utilizing the following platforms:

  • Procore
    • Review RFIs
    • Review submittals
    • Review project documentation
  • Microsoft Teams
    • Schedule meetings
    • Communicate with project teams
    • Conduct virtual meetings and presentations
  • Microsoft Excel
    • Create and manage tracking logs
    • Update reports and project documentation
  • SharePoint
    • Upload, organize, and maintain project records
  • Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
    • Review drawings
    • Track and respond to project issues
    • Coordinate design-related documentation

Required Qualifications

  • Experience supporting design, construction, or technical project delivery teams.
  • Previous onsite project experience in active construction environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Understanding of architectural, engineering, and design coordination processes.
  • Experience working with contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfortable navigating construction sites and understanding basic jobsite safety protocols.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Excel, Procore, ACC, and SharePoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data center project experience.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical, laboratory, semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, or other highly technical facilities.
  • Experience in architecture, engineering, construction management, or owner's representation.
  • Experience reviewing RFIs, submittals, and construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of design management and project coordination processes.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking collaborative professionals who understand how to balance technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate knows when to coach, advise, and facilitate rather than dictate solutions and can effectively build relationships with both design and construction teams. Years of experience are less important than mindset, adaptability, and the willingness to learn. Candidates with several years of project experience who are eager to grow within a highly technical environment are encouraged to apply.

Strong candidates may come from backgrounds such as:

  • Data Centers
  • Mission Critical Facilities
  • Laboratories
  • Semiconductor Facilities

  • Non-local candidates may follow a rotating schedule of approximately 10 consecutive days onsite followed by 4 days at home.
