What is a Data Center Program?

A Data Center Program refers to the coordinated management and operation of a company’s data centers, including planning, deployment, maintenance, and optimization of data center facilities and infrastructure. Such programs oversee servers, storage, networking, power, cooling, and security systems to ensure reliable and efficient data processing and storage. They are critical for supporting cloud services, enterprise applications, and digital operations. Program managers in this field are responsible for project delivery, cost control, compliance, and scaling operations to meet business needs.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in Data Center Program roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Data Center Program roles often encounter challenges such as coordinating complex projects across multiple teams, managing tight timelines for hardware deployment, and ensuring compliance with security and operational standards. Successfully navigating these challenges typically involves strong communication skills, effective project management, and a proactive approach to risk mitigation. Leveraging collaboration tools, staying up-to-date with industry best practices, and building relationships with cross-functional teams are key strategies for overcoming obstacles and ensuring the smooth operation of data center initiatives.

From individual facilities to a worldwide network, Infrastructure Services ensures the technology underneath everything works without question. We are looking for a highly motivated Engineering Program Manager (EPM) Manager to join Apple's Data Center Program Management team. In this role, you will partner with stakeholders to define problems and drive solutions that improve data center operations at scale. You will lead multiple concurrent programs, balancing strategic vision with tactical execution in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Success requires sound business judgment, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to influence across all levels - from engineers and technicians to senior leadership. As a manager at Apple, you will inspire your team to do their best work and grow into the best version of themselves.","responsibilities":"Lead a portfolio of data center programs from planning through execution, ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery across cross-functional teams
Drive strategic planning and roadmapping in partnership with leadership, translating organizational priorities into executable program plans
Own end-to-end program execution, driving accountability, resolving blockers, and maintaining momentum across multiple concurrent initiatives in a fast-paced environment
Proactively manage risks and escalations, developing mitigation strategies and contingency plans across the portfolio
Serve as a trusted partner to senior leadership and cross-org stakeholders, providing clear and consistent communication on status and decisions
Build and develop a high-performing EPM team, coaching individuals to grow professionally and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Establish program governance and operational rigor through best practices, metrics, and reporting frameworks that scale across the team
Influence without authority across engineering, operations, and senior management to drive alignment and outcomes
Preferred Qualifications
Deep knowledge of data center operations, including infrastructure lifecycle, capacity planning, and construction or commissioning processes
Proficiency in program management tools, methodologies, and techniques, including scope, schedule, budget, risk management, and metrics tracking
Significant experience navigating complex, matrixed organizations across hardware, software, and operations teams within large-scale technology companies
Prior experience partnering with Finance, Real Estate, or Supply Chain on capital programs, budget planning, and resource forecasting
Expert level ability to communicate directly and clearly, with an emphasis on clarity, precision, and active listening
Proven ability to lead a team, and define and drive success measures across both individual programs and a broader portfolio
Minimum Qualifications
