Job description

Overview

The Data Center Manager (DCM) will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of data center and building operations, 24x7 staffing, facility infrastructure testing and preventive maintenance, service delivery, quality assurance, adherence to corporate standards and processes, oversight of all hardware assets within the datacenter (internal and customer assets), and continuous improvement to operations within the data center. Requires ability to manage multiple projects at once including coordinating work efforts of internal and external resources as needed. Can provide these functions with minimal direct supervision.

Responsibilities

Managerial

  • Provides quality internal and external customer service surrounding the Company values.
  • Maintain staffing plan to meet business needs and objectives.
  • Ability to manage multiple teams, some remote locations.
  • Assist with new hire interviewing and review support capabilities and establish plans to improve staff performance.
  • Deliver employee communications through regularly scheduled group meetings, one on one sessions, and yearly reviews.
  • Define employee goals and objectives.
  • Maintain staff schedule to meet appropriate shift coverage.
  • Task manage resources for complex or high-profile installations.
  • Oversee and drive projects to on-time completion.
  • Develop positive relationships with all marquis customers.
  • Provide leadership in resolving/addressing customer issues.
  • Enforce established policies and procedures.
  • Establish and enhance operations processes to drive efficiency and lower operational costs
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Ensure appropriate levels of spares for all dedicated and managed servers and peripherals.

Technical

  • Develop solution alternatives to work around customer problems.
  • Solid understanding of electrical principles.
  • Understanding of networking and server computer services.
  • Understanding of wide area circuit delivery.

Facilities

  • Proactively assess datacenter facility requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee regular testing and preventive maintenance of critical facilities infrastructure.
  • Solid understanding of critical facilities infrastructure (mechanical, electrical, life safety, security, etc.)
  • Understanding of building management systems and controls.
  • Understanding of datacenter best practices (hot-aisle / cold-aisle cabinet placement, service space requirements, power distribution, network cabling, etc.)
  • Understanding of physical security and access systems.
  • Responsible for delivering accurate monthly facility capacity metrics.
  • Enforce and adhere to all facility standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years progressive experience in a technology-based customer support and data center operations environment.
  • A solid understanding of the service provider business.
  • Ability to coordinate projects and programs to ensure that all elements of work meet the quality standards, defined scope, and costs of the organization.
  • Ability to manage projects/programs from concept development through implementation.
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others with or without the benefit of a direct reporting relationship.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Must exhibit a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Ability to rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to utilize independent judgment and to support senior managers on operational type projects.
  • Ability to work with personnel at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required overseeing critical maintenance activities.
  • Ability to commit to be 'on-call' at all times.
  • Previous personnel management in a shift-based environment.
  • Strong PC skills.
  • Adequate professional experience and knowledge to perform Job Responsibilities

Pay Range $83,000.00 - $133,026.28
