Job description

THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MANATEE COUNTY
Local Title: ENGINEER, DATA CENTER
State Title: Information Specialist, AT
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To assist the Supervisor, Data Center Services with implementation, configuration, and support of all district level servers (virtual and physical), data storage, and data backup systems, active directory administration, and enterprise email system.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution or, or associate's degree and five years of experience, or high school diploma or equivalent and seven years of experience in the IT and/or Data Center Operations required.
  2. Three to five years' experience with Servers, Enterprise SANs, Virtualization, Enterprise Backup Systems. Experience with various Microsoft Server OS platforms, Linux OS. Experience with Microsoft - Office 365/Azure/SharePoint Online/Exchange Online email systems. Experience with Active Directory On-Prem and Azure AD/EntraID, and ADFS services and infrastructure.
  3. Proven ability to successfully assess and apply best practices and/or current technologies to enhance the attainment of the District's educational and technological objectives.
  4. Proven ability to work in a participative, collaborative manner with School employees, administrative employees, and external partners as appropriate in the development, support and implementation of technologies.
  5. Proven ability to execute and deliver technologies quickly and effectively.
  6. Valid Florida Driver's License or will obtain within 30 days of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Desired applicant needs to exhibit KSA's in the following:
Installation, maintenance and support of Enterprise level server hardware, Virtualized server management software, Enterprise storage, Enterprise backup solutions. Experience with Microsoft Office 365/Azure/ADFS. Experience implementing and administering Active Directory and Azure AD/EntraID and its services. Experience managing AD group policies, configuring & installing DNS. Experience with enterprise security features, authentication & auditing. Experience with local and wide-area networks, and SAN Fabric switch configuration. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize all tasks related to position. Ability to document all planning, installation and upgrade procedures pertaining to the Data Center Services. Ability to handle multiple tasks in stressful situations with ease and efficiency. Ability to work cooperatively with other departments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, general public, and vendors. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. Ability to trouble-shoot server operating systems and/or hardware problems and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assists the Supervisor, Data Center Services in the implementation, configuration, and support all district level enterprise servers (virtual and physical); all data storage on enterprise SANs at all District Administration Sites and multiple data centers.
  2. Performs all firmware upgrades on all enterprise servers, iLOs, Onboard Administration software, virtual connect modules, enterprise SAN drives and controllers.
  3. Maintain, support and trouble-shoot enterprise backup system and Recovery system. Make recommendations to the Supervisor, Data Center Services on improvements in Disaster Recovery and Preparedness and off-site storage.
  4. Maintains, supports and trouble-shoots Office 365/Exchange & SharePoint Online infrastructure.
  5. Assist the Supervisor, Data Center Services in planning and managing new technologies regarding the District Data Center performance and reliability.
  6. Monitor all district physical and virtual servers. Makes recommendation to the Supervisor, Data Center Services for new technological advances.
  7. Work with the Network Services team to configure and deploy servers.
  8. Maintain, support and trouble-shoot Active Directory sites and services. Provides support for DHCP, Domain controllers, DNS, Print & File sharing services, Group policies.
  9. Performs research, test and evaluation on all enterprise servers, mainframes, data storage and backup hardware and software improvements before implementation into existing production environment.
  10. Assist Supervisor, Data Center Services with maintaining blade server hardware, server operating systems, and network connectivity to all district level servers.
  11. Document procedures for installations and upgrades for all district level servers, and Enterprise Systems.
  12. Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  13. Exhibit interpersonal skill to work as an effective team member.
  14. Model and maintain high ethical standards.
  15. Represent the district in a positive and professional manner.
  16. Communicate effectively with staff, administration, and vendors.
  17. Keep the Supervisor, Data Center Services informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  18. Demonstrate support for the school district and its goals and objectives.
  19. Prepare all required reports and executive summaries also maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and procedures documentation.
  20. Increase job knowledge through training opportunities and self-study.
  21. Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  22. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
  23. As technology systems evolve duties, responsibilities and activities may change and new ones may be assigned at any time.
  24. Perform some after-hours work including weekends and holidays consistent with a position in this job classification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
