Both roles are essential in data-driven organizations but differ in complexity and responsibilities.

What are the top 3 skills for a data analyst?

A data analyst needs strong analytical skills to interpret data accurately, proficiency in tools like Excel, SQL, or Python for data manipulation, and good communication skills to present findings clearly. Familiarity with data visualization and statistical knowledge also enhance their effectiveness in the role.

What are Data Associates?

Data Associates are professionals who collect, manage, process, and ensure the quality of data within an organization. They often work with databases, spreadsheets, and software tools to organize and validate data, making it accessible and accurate for analysis and reporting. Data Associates may also assist with data entry, cleaning, and basic analysis tasks, supporting teams like data analysts or data scientists. Their work is crucial for maintaining reliable information that drives business decisions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Associate, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid foundation in data management or statistics, often supported by a bachelor's degree in a related field. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, and sometimes Python or data visualization software is commonly required. Excellent organization, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help individuals stand out in this role. These skills ensure accurate data handling, reliable reporting, and clear collaboration across teams, which are critical for data-driven decision-making.

Is data entry a permanent job?

Data entry positions can be either permanent or temporary, depending on the employer and the nature of the role. Permanent data associate jobs typically offer ongoing employment with benefits, while temporary roles are often project-based or seasonal. The permanency of a data entry job depends on the company's staffing needs and the employment agreement.

How does a Data Associate typically collaborate with other teams within an organization?

Data Associates frequently work alongside analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure data accuracy and accessibility. They may be responsible for gathering data from various sources, cleaning datasets, and supporting the data needs of other departments. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as Data Associates often receive requests for reports or data updates and must coordinate with technical and non-technical colleagues to deliver actionable insights. Job description

Who You Are:

The Risk Associate will play a key role in coordinating across data center disciplines to identify, assess, report, and mitigate risks across the full lifecycle of data center assets. This role requires a holistic understanding of the range of risks that may arise across disciplines of a large data center business including procurement, construction, operations, finance and the ability to partner cross-functionally to ensure resilient, compliant, and efficient project delivery and operations.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead lifecycle risk management across data center projects, identifying, tracking, and mitigating risks from site selection through operations while maintaining up-to-date risk registers and embedding best practices across teams.
  • Partner cross-functionally with development, construction, engineering, finance, and operations to proactively identify and address risks early in project planning and execution.
  • Evaluate and manage risks across pre-construction, procurement, and construction phases, including site, permitting, supply chain, contractor performance, schedule, and cost exposures.
  • Support operational risk management for live environments, including uptime, security, infrastructure reliability, and business continuity/disaster recovery planning.
  • Assist with insurance placement, claims, and compliance efforts, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, SOC, NIST) and supporting audits across lifecycle phases.
  • Analyze financial and market risks in collaboration with finance, including budgeting considerations and risk mitigation strategies such as hedging.
  • Produce risk reports, dashboards, and insights for leadership while driving continuous improvement of risk frameworks, tools, and long-term mitigation strategies.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of experience in risk, project management, construction, infrastructure, or operations (data center or mission-critical environment preferred)
  • Familiarity with risk management frameworks (e.g., COSO, NIST, ISO 31000)
  • Basic understanding of data center infrastructure (power, cooling, redundancy) and development lifecycle
  • Highly entrepreneurial spirit - ability to operate with minimal guidance and a strong ownership mindset to deliver results
  • Deep working knowledge of financial, technology, and infrastructure risks
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills; able to translate complex operational risks into succinct data points for decision-makers

Bonus Points

  • Exposure to large-scale infrastructure or real estate development projects
  • Knowledge of construction risk, contract risk, and vendor management
  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as SOC 1/2, ISO 27001, or NIST
  • Relevant certifications: CRISC, CISSP, CRMP, CERP, or equivalent
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools
  • Ability to synthesize technical, financial, and operational information into clear risk insights
  • Demonstrated success in building an enterprise risk management function, ideally in a high-growth, regulated environment
