Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Data Analytics Specialist at Colorado PERA plays a critical role in advancing the organization's mission through modern, data-driven practices. This position is focused on enabling effective use of data across the organization by establishing scalable analytics workflows, improving access to trusted data, and empowering employees through education, training, and analytics enablement.

Working closely with business and technical teams, this role transforms data into actionable insights that support strategic and operational decision-making. The Data Analytics Specialist serves as a champion for data literacy, self-service analytics, and continuous improvement while helping expand PERA's analytics capabilities and modern data ecosystem. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of analytics at PERA by influencing how data is accessed, analyzed, and leveraged across the enterprise.

  • Analytics Workflow Development & Optimization

    • Design and continuously improve scalable workflows for analytics intake, prioritization, development, and delivery.

    • Establish standards, templates, and best practices that improve the consistency, quality, and efficiency of analytics solutions.

    • Develop analytics products, reporting frameworks, and performance measures that support organizational goals.

    • Partner with stakeholders to identify opportunities where data and analytics can improve business outcomes and decision-making.

    • Evaluate and recommend enhancements to analytics tools, processes, and methodologies.

  • Data Literacy & User Enablement

    • Lead initiatives that increase data literacy and foster a culture of data-informed decision-making across the organization.

    • Serve as a subject matter expert for Power BI and related analytics tools.

    • Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, documentation, and learning resources for users with varying levels of technical expertise.

    • Partner with stakeholders to define meaningful key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics, and success measures.

    • Perform exploratory and diagnostic analyses that help drive process improvements and organizational performance.

  • Data Access & Platform Enablement

    • Improve access to trusted, analytics-ready data by helping users discover, understand, and leverage relevant data sources.

    • Collaborate with data engineering, architecture, and technology teams to enhance the availability, usability, and discoverability of enterprise data assets.

    • Support the adoption and effective use of modern data platforms and analytics technologies, including Snowflake, AWS, and related tools.

    • Organize and maintain analytics resources, datasets, and documentation that support self-service analytics capabilities.

    • Identify opportunities to expand and enhance enterprise analytics capabilities, tools, and data sources.

  • Data Governance

    • Support enterprise data governance initiatives by ensuring analytics solutions align with established data standards, definitions, and business rules.

    • Partner with data owners and stewards to promote consistency, transparency, and confidence in reporting and analytics.

    • Incorporate standardized metrics, business definitions, and trusted data sources into dashboards, reports, and analytics products.

    • Participate in governance forums and provide feedback on data quality, reporting, and analytics challenges identified through business engagement.

    • Advocate for data quality, metric consistency, and responsible use of organizational data to support effective decision-making.

Job Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field and 2+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or a related discipline.

    • 2+ years of experience developing dashboards and analytics solutions using BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau.

    • Experience extracting and transforming data from relational databases and enterprise systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).

    • Experience with cloud data technologies (e.g., Snowflake, AWS, Azure Data Platform).

    • Demonstrated experience delivering analytics solutions that support business decisions, operational improvements, or measurable organizational outcomes.

    • Understanding of data quality, privacy, compliance, and information management principles.

    • Strong communication, facilitation, customer service, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Data analytics certifications (e.g. Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Tableau Certified Data Analyst, Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate, etc.)

    • Experience with advanced analytics, statistical analysis, Python, R, or machine learning concepts.

    • Experience in financial services, pension systems, or public sector organizations.
