Chenega Services & Federal Solutions, LLC, a Chenega Professional Services' company, is looking for a Scientific Data Analyst 4 - Injury Epidemiology to support the Injury Biomechanics and Protection Group (IBP) of the U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory (USAARL) to provide the scientific, programmatic, and technical support to allow responsive, high quality, and timely mission accomplishment within a flexible and changing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide scientific analytical services related to data acquisition (e.g., safety, engineering, and medical databases), data management, and data analysis according to approved protocols, policies, and/or plans to ensure quality, accuracy, future use, and reproducibility of data/results.
  • Acquire, manage, and analyze data (obtained safety, engineering, and medical databases).
  • Perform quality assessments and corrections through data cleaning and mining to ensure traceable and useable data for analysis purposes.
  • Create relevant or use established military or industry (medical, treatment, hospitalization, safety, crash) standard data coding, such as Barell injury matrix, Abbreviated Injury Score (AIS), ICD-9, or ICD-10.
  • Provide scientific analytical services related to data analysis, data scientific quality assessment, and data management according to approved protocols, policies, and/or plans to ensure quality, accuracy, future use, and reproducibility of data/results (e.g., by following scientific procedures, recording information, documenting research, and properly storing data.)
  • Assess RFIs and RDT&E questions for analysis questions and determine analysis plan.
  • Perform analysis on large medical injury, mishap/accident/incident/safety investigations, and research data by writing and/or developing algorithms and processing data through COTS and/or custom analysis software.
  • Develop and direct the use of Best Practices for data management, file structures, and relational databases.
  • Develop and update appropriate analysis documentation, and store documents and data in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Ensure that plans and execution of analysis meets all applicable timelines, approval processes, regulations, guidance, and procedures.
  • Provide scientific analytical services by applying the principles of statistics, numerical methods, research, injury analysis, and programming. Such application will require individual research, synthesis of research and mathematical literature, programming in relevant software, modification and use of previously created scripts, creation of batch jobs, data quality assessments, and handling large data sets. Additionally, documentation of analysis will be required within developed and modified scripts and codes along with scientific documentation such as papers, reports, and presentations.
  • Provide understanding of data use and analysis needs to a multi-disciplinary team including engineers, physicians, computer scientists, database developers, data entry clerks, data quality assessors, safety professionals, and other biomedical researchers.
  • Provide services related to the Injury Biomechanics RDT&E efforts, including the development of draft analysis plans and protocol documentation from literature and data reviews along with the collection and preparation of data for analysis and synthesis according to policy and procedures of the USAARL. All aspects of RDT&E are included, such as Human Subject Research, Research Not Involving Human Subjects (RNIHS), cadaveric studies, and Test and Evaluations.
  • Work under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, Team Chief, or Group Leadership, using knowledge and training to plan and accomplish research tasks and goals.
  • Work within a research team with junior data analysts to accomplish RDT&E objectives, but work independently with minimal direction to solve analytic and technical problems.
  • The contractor shall advise the Principal Investigator, Team Chief, or Group Leadership on study design and data collection required for expected analyses to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Provide services related to the preparation of draft reports, presentations, and other documentation on progress and findings, which will be distributed, presented, and/or discussed within the laboratory and/or at forums outside the laboratory.
  • Develop, write, or review statistical section of protocols, preparing analysis plans, and writing detailed specifications for analysis files, consistency checks, tables, and figures.
  • Conduct and interpret analyses and write study reports, papers, and presentations.
  • Perform other data-related and research equipment/facilities support functions, including physical packing, digitizing, moving, shipping, inventory, relocation, and re-organization, as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, academia, industry, and customers on biomechanical/biomedical projects, products, and knowledge solutions.
  • Conduct injury biomechanics research with equipment and in field settings that may create potentially hazardous conditions.
  • On written authority of the Laboratory Commander, fly on military aircraft or ride in military vehicles in the official conduct of duties of the position.
  • May travel CONUS or O-CONUS to conduct RDT&E (data collections), attend working groups meetings, training, workshops, conferences, or other relevant meetings. Expect multiple meetings or conferences per year.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a state-issued driver's license for independent travel to restricted meetings and field-data collection locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field from an accredited institution.
  • Must have knowledge of commonly used and advanced concepts, practices, standards, and procedures within injury epidemiology and statistics.
  • Must have experience with accepted industry best practices and software for statistical analysis, such as SPSS and SAS.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a state-issued driver's license.
  • May work variable work hours to meet performance requirements, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Successfully pass background and drug screening

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated expertise in injury epidemiology and statistics through relevant publications.
  • Experience working with large medical injury, mishap, accident, incident, safety investigation, or research datasets.
  • Experience developing algorithms and processing data through commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and/or custom analytical software.
  • Experience with military, medical, treatment, hospitalization, safety, or crash databases.
  • Experience creating and applying standard injury coding methodologies, including Barell Injury Matrix, Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS), ICD-9, and ICD-10.
  • Experience supporting Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts, including Human Subject Research, Research Not Involving Human Subjects (RNIHS), cadaveric studies, and Test & Evaluation activities.
  • Experience developing statistical analysis plans, research protocols, technical reports, presentations, and scientific publications.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams consisting of engineers, physicians, computer scientists, database developers, safety professionals, and biomedical researchers.
  • Experience supporting military research organizations or Department of Defense environments.
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders from government, industry, and academia.
