Job Description

We are currently seeking an Environmental Data Analytics Discipline Leader who will play a crucial role in leveraging data analytics to enhance our firm's capabilities in environmental services. This position involves working across multiple technical practice areas at the firm, working with CDM Smith’s digital teams, and also involves supporting marketing and business development initiatives related to environmental data analytics. This discipline leader will collaborate with other discipline leaders, subject matter experts (SMEs), the company’s digital teams, and the larger environmental data analytics group within the firm to gather ideas and assess needs for the environmental data analytics discipline area. They coordinate efforts with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, designers, draftsmen, technicians, and digital experts at the company to provide a variety of environmental services for clients. Additionally, the leader is responsible for developing processes to evaluate ideas and initiatives for potential innovation investment at the firm, aimed at developing analytics tools and technologies.

The Data Analytics Discipline Leader also helps with managing intellectual property (IP) and research and development (R&D) investments by reviewing current environmental data analytics-related ideas, identifying IP to consider for protection, and prioritizing potential R&D investments. They work to grow a team of environmental data analytics practitioners who have the desire or aptitude to pursue environmental analysis for a variety of client projects at the firm. The leader establishes relationships and processes for providing our environmental data analytics services to the market and ensures that the firm stays ahead of competitors by continuously improving data management and analysis capabilities. This role is essential for navigating the competitive landscape and meeting the growing demands for advanced data analytics solutions in the environmental sector.

As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:

  • Assisting CDM Smith’s Digital teams in conducting evaluations of available data analytics technologies and platforms to analyze a wide range of environmental data across various applications (e.g., water quality assessments, remedial investigations, remedial actions, and operations and maintenance of treatment systems).
  • Work with the firm’s sales teams and with CDM Smith’s digital subsidiary, Trinnex (as applicable), on technical sales, design, and delivery of environmental data analytics solutions tailored for environmental analysis-related needs.
  • Collaborate with local, national, and international technical teams.
  • Work across multiple technical practice areas to leverage environmental data analytics research and the firm’s development activities, thereby expanding and enhancing the firm’s capabilities in environmental services.
  • Support marketing and business development initiatives related to environmental data analytics.
  • Collaborate and compile ideas: Engage with discipline leaders, subject matter experts (SMEs), and the environmental data analytics group to gather ideas and assess needs for environmental data analytics innovation and more.
  • Coordinate efforts with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, designers, draftsmen, and technicians to deliver effective environmental solutions to CDM Smith’s clients.
  • Establish processes: Develop processes to evaluate ideas and initiatives for potential innovation investment at the firm aimed at developing analytics tools and technologies.
  • Manage potential intellectual property (IP) and research and development (R&D) investments: Review current environmental data analytics ideas, identify potential IP for protection, prioritize potential R&D investments, and assist with connecting these to the firm’s processes and groups overseeing IP protection, innovation, and digital investment.
  • Work with and grow environmental data analytics practitioners who have the desire or aptitude to provide environmental services for a variety of clients at the firm.
  • Navigate the competitive landscape and help keep CDM Smith at the forefront of the environmental data analytics market in the environmental sector.
  • Market engagement: Identify conferences, working groups, and other activities to enhance technical visibility and promote our capabilities to clients.
  • Track business opportunities and clients: Identify and monitor business opportunities and client relationships for environmental data analytics services.
Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of corporate governance practices, organization design principles, accounting principles, finance, supply chain management, and organization management. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to understand highly complex technical, professional and business materials.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. 12 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Environmental Expertise: Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, chemical engineering, science or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license or registration as a Licensed Professional Geologist or professional scientist registration/certification or Master’s degree in science or related discipline. Must have extensive understanding of environmental analytics.
  • Statistical Analysis Proficiency: Proficient in the mathematical principals of data analytics and the interpretation of environmental data. Familiarity with Python or R a plus.
  • IP Management: Experience in managing intellectual property.
  • Educational Interest: An interest in teaching and developing education and advancement opportunities for mid- and junior-level staff.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  • 10 years of related experience.

Additional Pay Range Information

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate’s salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.

Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
