About this opportunity:

Interested in starting your AI & Software Development career at the intersection of AI, data, and real-world business problems? Curious how modern AI tools and agentic systems are used in production? Want hands-on ownership while building things that matter?

If that sounds like you, we're hiring.

Join our AI Development team as we build the next generation of AI-powered digital products for the energy industry. We focus on practical, high-impact solutions that remove low-value work, support better decisions, and scale expertise across the business.

We're hiring a Software and AI Developer to join our agile Business Transformation group. This role is designed for an earlycareer software developer who wants to grow strong software engineering fundamentals while gaining real exposure to applied AI, modern platforms, and end-to-end product delivery.

You'll work closely with senior developers and engineers, product leads, and domain experts - contributing to production systems while being coached on design, quality, and engineering best practices.

This is a full-time, in-office role based in downtown Calgary.

What you'll do:

  • Build Production Software: Create fullstack, production-grade applications used by business and field teams.

  • Product Development Ownership: Own the end-to-end product development, working directly with stakeholders, domain experts and team members to progress solution development.

  • Learn End-to-End Delivery: Participate across the lifecycle iterating through - problem definition, design, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring.

  • Apply AI in Practice: Help integrate generative AI, analytics, and automation into real workflows under guidance from senior engineers.

  • Translate Business Problems: Work with domain experts to understand operational problems and help turn them into working software.

  • Develop Engineering Foundations: Write clean, testable code; learn system design basics; and follow secure, reliable development practices.

  • Grow Through Mentorship: Learn by pairing with senior engineers, receiving code reviews, and continuously improving your craft.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.

  • Software Development Experience: 1-3 years of software development experience, including professional, co-op, practicum, internship, personal, or open-source projects. Experience in tech industry, oil and gas/energy industry, engineering, industrial operations, finance, supply chain, or business transformation teams is highly valued.

  • Full-Stack Application Development: Experience or exposure building web applications using modern full-stack frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Django, Laravel, ASP.NET, or similar technologies as a demonstration of software engineering and product development capabilities. Experience with comparable frameworks may also be considered.

  • Software Engineering Foundations: Understanding of core software engineering concepts including object-oriented programming, APIs, relational databases, data modeling, automated testing, version control, security, authentication and authorization, and modern software delivery practices.

  • AI Application Development: Experience or exposure building AI-enabled applications using modern AI frameworks, APIs, and foundational large language models such as OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, Llama, LangChain/LangGraph, Agno, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, CrewAI, AutoGen, PydanticAI, or similar technologies.

  • Data & Platform Technologies: Experience or exposure working with databases, cloud services, storage technologies, analytics platforms, and modern data platforms such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Blob Storage, Redis, or similar technologies.

  • Agentic Development: Experience in agentic software development practices and AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies.

  • Curiosity & Growth Mindset: Demonstrated curiosity, self-learning, and practical problem-solving skills, with experience gained through hackathons, innovation challenges, technical communities, personal projects, or other collaborative learning opportunities.

We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
