Position Title: Adjunct Instructor of Art and Design (Painting/Drawing)
Hours Per Week: 6-12 hours per week

Job Type: Adjunct instructor with 16-week teaching contract.
Internal Job Category: Adjunct instructor
Position Purpose: Cumberland University Fine Arts program is seeking applicants demonstrating successful and active professional practice, knowledge of contemporary art and theory, and excellence in the teaching of painting/drawing, art history, and 2D processes at an undergraduate level. This position will enhance program strength, course offerings, and student opportunities in the program under the supervision of the program director. Successful candidates will show ability to design and assess curriculum plans that foster rigorous student learning and engagement while enhancing the necessary skills required in adult learners in the field of art and design.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
  • Be proficient in a wide range of media and techniques
  • Must be able to communicate well with students and other faculty members
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of concepts in art and fundamentals of design
  • Engage in class and student assessment while maintaining all necessary paperwork and records based on Program Director requirements
  • Collaborate with colleagues in both program and field advancement activities such as creative and/or scholarly involvement
  • Experience in supervising facilities and students in a 2D environment
  • Evidence of high level of personal agency and initiative
  • Demonstrate organizational skills for curriculum management and program design including analysis of data for continuous improvement
  • Possess ability to contribute positively to a dynamic setting with collaborative faculty
  • Two or more years with teaching experience in Painting, Drawing, or other 2D art processes
  • Evidence of successful career in related field

Experience:
  • Experience and network in the Middle Tennessee region preferred but not necessary.

Education: M.F.A. required
