Job description

Title: Instructor of Mathematics (Temp)

Job Summary

Jackson State Community College is seeking a dedicated individual to join our faculty as a full-time Mathematics Instructor, to teach college level and co-requisite support math courses appropriate for a two-year college curriculum. Math faculty help students advance their math skills in preparation for working in professional environments, furthering academic study, and developing careers. The teaching assignment may include online classes, virtual classes, day and evening classes, and teaching at off-campus locations, and the faculty member is responsible for the success of the teaching and learning process within the classroom. Other responsibilities include student advising, professional development, service on committees, curriculum development, participation in campus and system-wide initiatives, learning new instructional technologies and modalities, assessment, and collaborative work with faculty and staff. Math faculty work closely with other faculty, department chairs, deans, and college personnel to promote student success.

Job Duties

  • Provide instruction in accordance with established institutional expectations 
  • Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies 
  • Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations
  • Maintain and submit, on time, required student attendance and academic records 
  • Post and maintain regular campus hours in accordance to institutional policy 
  • Function as an academic advisor to students 
  • Participate in the development and review of curriculum 
  • Participate in college, division, and department activities, initiatives, and committees 
  • Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments 
  • Demonstrate current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue future technological developments 
  • Participate in the development of instructional methods, materials, and modalities 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s Degree with at least 18 graduate hours in mathematics.
• Ability to learn and use common Math software and instructional technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics.
• Prior teaching experience with proven ability to instruct Statistics and Precalculus.
• Prior teaching experience in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Provide instruction in accordance with established expectations

Pay Rate:  $44,994 - $53,992 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
