Job Description

As a Data Developer II, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining GEM's data infrastructure and systems with a strong emphasis on leveraging modern data technologies and cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in building scalable data solutions to enable advanced analytics and data management capabilities. This role will also involve driving the adoption of best practices in data engineering, promoting a data-centric culture, and providing mentorship within the development team.ย 

What does your typical day look like?

  • Design, develop, and maintain modern data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes using Snowflake and Azure Data Services.
  • Architect data solutions leveraging DBT for data transformation and Azure Data Factory for pipeline orchestration.
  • Collaborate with business and data teams to translate data requirements into efficient data models, ensuring compliance with data governance and architecture standards.
  • Utilize cloud-native data services, including Azure Storage, to optimize data management and scalability.
  • Implement and automate data quality checks using tools like DBT tests.
  • Implement and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, data lineage, and metadata management processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define data standards, naming conventions, and data classification.

What skills and training do you need?

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in computer engineering, mathematics, data science, or related disciplines.
  • 4-6 years of professional experience in a related field.
  • Experience using the following software/tools:
  • Relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MS SQL Server, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, MariaDB).
  • Cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and cloud-based data services.
  • Data modeling and transformation tools like DBT.
  • ETL tools such as Azure Data Factory, Airflow, or Informatica.
  • Knowledge of APIs and data integration strategies.
  • Relevant certifications in Azure Data Services or Snowflake are a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in modern data technologies such as Snowflake, DBT, and Azure Data Factory.
  • Strong experience with SQL and data pipeline automation.
  • Deep understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality management, and security protocols.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams, communicate complex technical solutions, and drive consensus on best practices.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing cloud-based data architectures with a focus on scalability, security, and cost-efficiency.
