Position Title: Power BI Data Engineer

Reports To: Data Analytics Director

Location: Hybrid

Position Summary

The Power BI Data Analyst is responsible for transforming data into actionable insights through reporting, data visualization, and analysis. This role works closely with business stakeholders to understand analytical needs, develop intuitive dashboards, and support data-driven decision-making.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical thinking with hands-on Power BI experience, focusing on delivering clear, accurate, and impactful reporting solutions rather than building complex data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting & Data Visualization

  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to support business operations and strategic initiatives
  • Develop user-friendly, visually effective dashboards that communicate insights clearly
  • Translate business requirements into meaningful reports and visualizations
  • Optimize reports for usability and performance

Data Analysis & Insights

  • Analyze datasets to identify trends, patterns, and key business insights
  • Support ad hoc analysis requests and provide actionable recommendations
  • Validate and interpret data to ensure accurate reporting
  • Assist stakeholders in understanding metrics and KPIs

Data Preparation & Modeling

  • Prepare and transform data using Power Query and basic ETL concepts
  • Develop and maintain simple, efficient data models for reporting (primarily star schema concepts)
  • Create and manage Power BI datasets and semantic models
  • Partner with upstream data teams when complex data engineering is required

Collaboration & Stakeholder Support

  • Work closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements and refine reporting needs
  • Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Provide training and guidance to business users on Power BI tools and dashboards
  • Support adoption of self-service analytics across the organization

Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Analytics, or related field
  • 2โ€“4 years of experience in data analysis, BI reporting, or similar role
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • DAX
    • Power Query
    • Data visualization best practices

Preferred Characteristics

  • Strong SQL skills for querying and basic data validation
  • Experience working with business stakeholders and translating requirements into reports
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate)
  • Experience supporting executive-level dashboards and reporting
  • Understanding of basic data modeling concepts

Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300)
