Overview
Microsoft's Acquisition and Venture Success Total Rewards (MAVS TR) team enables successful acquisitions, divestitures, strategic talent events, and other complex transactions by designing and delivering end-to-end Total Rewards strategies. The team brings together compensation, equity, benefits, retention, and integration expertise to support Microsoft's growth and help employees transition successfully into, within, or out of the company.
As Senior Director, Head of MAVS Total Rewards, you will lead the team responsible for shaping and executing Microsoft's global Total Rewards strategy across acquisitions and other high-impact transactions. You will set the strategic direction for the function, translate deal value drivers and talent priorities into integrated rewards solutions, and advise senior executives on complex, high-risk decisions. You will build organizational capability, establish scalable frameworks and operating rhythms, and ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across multiple concurrent transactions. You will also lead, coach, and develop a team of Total Rewards professionals while fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, learning, and partnership.
This opportunity will allow you to influence Microsoft's enterprise M&A strategy, strengthen how Total Rewards supports critical talent outcomes, and evolve the function through data, technology, and AI-enabled ways of working.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the MAVS Total Rewards team and own the global strategy, operating model, priorities, and delivery standards for Total Rewards support across acquisitions, divestitures, commercial partnerships, joint ventures, re-engagements, and strategic talent events.
  • Serve as the senior Total Rewards advisor to executives and cross-functional leaders, translating transaction strategy, deal value drivers, financial considerations, and talent needs into integrated compensation, equity, benefits, retention, and transition strategies.
  • Direct Total Rewards work from early strategy and due diligence through offer development, negotiation, close, integration, and stabilization; make or escalate high-impact decisions involving significant financial, legal, employee, reputational, or execution risk.
  • Lead through complexity and ambiguity across multiple concurrent global transactions, establishing clear governance, decision rights, operating rhythms, and accountability across Total Rewards, Corporate Development, Finance, Legal, Tax, HR, business leadership, and the broader MAVS ecosystem.
  • Build enterprise-ready frameworks, tools, standards, and insights that improve deal velocity, consistency, quality, and scalability while preserving the tailored strategies required for different deal types, talent populations, and global contexts.
  • Shape critical talent outcomes, including executive decision support, retention strategy, offer competitiveness, employee transition, workforce integration, and the successful realization of transaction objectives.
  • Anticipate emerging business, market, regulatory, and talent trends; use data, external insights, technology, automation, and AI to evolve the MAVS Total Rewards capability and influence broader Total Rewards program design.
  • Model, coach, and care as a people leader by attracting, developing, and retaining a high-performing team; setting clear expectations; building succession and capability plans; and creating an inclusive environment where employees can do their best work.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, Business, Data Analytics, Mathematics, or related field AND 6+ years of experience in compensation, data analytics, human resources, finance, business, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, Data Analytics, Mathematics, or related field AND 8+ years of experience in compensation, data analytics, human resources, finance, business, or related field OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, Business, Data Analytics, Mathematics, or related field AND 12+ years of experience in compensation, data analytics, human resources, finance, business, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, Data Analytics, Mathematics, or related field AND 15+ years of experience in compensation, data analytics, human resources, finance, business, or related field OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of project management experience.
  • 4+ years of compensation program design experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working in the position's relevant regional labor, compensation, and statutory context.
  • 3+ years of people management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, high-risk, global initiatives and advising senior executives on business, talent, financial, or organizational decisions.
  • Deep knowledge across multiple Total Rewards areas, such as compensation, equity, benefits, executive rewards, retention, workforce transition, and global program design.
  • Demonstrated ability to set strategy, build organizational capability, and deliver through others across a highly matrixed, global environment.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent transactions or programs with significant financial, legal, employee, and reputational implications.
  • Executive presence and judgment, with the ability to synthesize complex information, frame decisions, influence senior stakeholders, and communicate clearly under pressure.
  • Proven success building diverse and inclusive teams, coaching leaders and professionals, and creating clarity, accountability, and energy through change.
  • Experience using data, technology, automation, or AI to improve decision quality, operating efficiency, scalability, or employee outcomes.

Compensation M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
