Primary Position Purpose:
The Data Engineer II works with new and legacy systems to lead the way for high-quality decisions. The Engineer II contributes to the design and implementation of both relational and NoSQL data repositories, focusing on optimizing data access and ensuring efficient data storage. This role works independently on smaller projects and assists senior engineers on more complex tasks.
Position Functions:
• Design and implement data models and schemas for relational and NoSQL databases, with a focus on MongoDB.
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures.
• Implement data transformation and processing pipelines.
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure data solutions meet application requirements.
• Conduct data analysis and performance tuning to optimize database systems.
• Assist in mentoring junior engineers and contribute to best practices.
What We're Looking For:
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field required
• Master's degree preferred
Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering or a related role required
  • Experience with data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing
  • Experience with a programming language (Python, Java, C#)

• Transportation, Logistics, and/or Tech industry experience a plus
Skills & Abilities
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with at least one NoSQL database, specifically MongoDB
• Understanding indexing, partitioning, and data sharding
• Knowledge of data security and compliance best practices
• Familiarity with message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, and relational databases like Amazon RDS is a plus
• Strong SQL skills and experience with data processing frameworks
• Ability to design and optimize database schemas and queries
• Experience with MongoDB and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is beneficial
• Adept at assessing organizational dynamics and managing change
• Works quickly and efficiently. Able to test solutions, learn, and iterate quickly
• Proactive and pragmatic problem solver
• Communicates effectively across multiple mediums
Licenses & Certifications
• Relevant certifications (MongoDB Certified Developer, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty, etc.) preferred
