Air Canada's Taxation team is on a transformation journey and reimagining how tax compliance is delivered through automation, data and AI. We are seeking a highly analytical and technology-driven professional to help build scalable, audit ready tax solutions and move our processes toward autopilot. ย 

The Tax Data Analytics & Automation Analyst will play a key role in designing and supporting automated tax workflows, enhancing data integrity, and advancing AI-enabled capabilities across the tax function. This role focuses on improving accuracy, efficiency, and auditability of tax processes through data-driven solutions, while ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

Automation & Process Transformation

  • Support the development and implementation of automated tax workflows that streamline data ingestion, transformation, validation, and reporting across multiple systems (e.g., Snowflake, Dataiku, SharePoint, Power BI, MS Copilot Agent, MS Power Automate)
  • Convert manual, recurring processes into scalable automated solutions using modern data platforms and tools
  • Monitor production workflows, troubleshoot issues, and continuously implement enhancements to improve performance and reliability

Data & Analytics

  • Responsible to deliver meaningful analytics through the creation of interactive dashboards and/or other data visualizations to support tax decision making
  • Understand enterprise data sources, their dependencies, and its impact on tax compliance
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and tax compliance
  • Collaborate with tax, IT, and data teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and data governance standards
  • Responsible to transform tax datasets into actionable insights and/or recoveries

AI & Advanced Capabilities

  • Assist in the design, testing, and continuous improvement of AI agents and intelligent automation solutions, including contributing to training datasets, validating outputs, and refining business logic to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Develop and implement controls and monitoring mechanisms for AI-driven solutions, including performance tracking, exception handling, and explainability to ensure outputs remain reliable, auditable, and compliant with tax and regulatory requirement
  • Explore innovative applications of emerging technologies within the tax function

Controls, Compliance & Auditability

  • Ensure tax data compliance across the full tax reporting lifecycle
  • Document and maintain technical and process documentation, including workflow logic, data mappings, and AI model assumptions for audit and knowledge-sharing purposes
  • Maintain and enhance reports related to ticket taxes, fees, and charges as requirements change
  • Support implementation of new tax legislation and validate compliance with regulatory changes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in either management of information system/technology, computer science, math and statistics or other related quantitative fields
  • 2 - 5 years of professional experience in data analytics, or systems/automation roles
  • Strong understanding of data processing, transformations, and reconciliation principles
  • Strong SQL experience (Snowflake) - stored procedures, writing complex queries, indexing, etc.
  • Strong Python experience
  • Experience with MS Office applications and MS Power Platform is required
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot Agent and Snowflake Cortex is preferred
  • Experience with automation tools such as Dataiku is a pre-requisite

  • Work experience in commodity tax (GST/HST, QST, PST, Excise Tax and Fuel Tax) is an asset
  • Proven ability to multi-task and perform under pressure
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and ability to take initiative
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in an agile team environment requires solving complex, open-ended problems with minimal guidance
  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment
