As of Jun 14, 2026, the average yearly pay for data analyst project manager in Minnesota is $80,939.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $61,200.00 and $95,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Who earns more, BA or PM?

In the context of a Data Analyst Project Manager role, project managers typically earn higher salaries than business analysts due to greater responsibilities, leadership requirements, and experience levels. Salaries can vary based on industry, location, and certifications like PMP, but project managers generally have higher compensation than business analysts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Analyst Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Analyst Project Manager, you need expertise in data analysis, project management methodologies, and a relevant degree such as in statistics, computer science, or business. Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), project management software (e.g., Jira, Asana), and certifications like PMP or CAPM are often required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills help you bridge technical teams and stakeholders while managing timelines and expectations. These abilities ensure that data-driven projects are executed efficiently, deliver actionable insights, and meet organizational goals.

What is a data analyst project manager?

A data analyst project manager is a professional who combines data analysis skills with project management responsibilities. They oversee data-related projects, coordinate teams, ensure timely delivery, and use tools like Excel, SQL, or project management software to meet organizational goals.

What is the difference between Data Analyst Project Manager vs Data Analyst?

AspectData Analyst Project ManagerData Analyst
Primary RoleOversees data projects, manages teams, and ensures project deliveryAnalyzes data, creates reports, and provides insights
Required SkillsProject management, data analysis, communicationData analysis, statistical skills, visualization
CertificationsPM certifications (e.g., PMP), data analysis toolsData analysis certifications (e.g., Microsoft, SAS)

The main difference is that a Data Analyst Project Manager combines project management with data analysis skills to lead data initiatives, while a Data Analyst primarily focuses on analyzing data and generating insights. The Project Manager role involves overseeing projects from start to finish, coordinating teams, and ensuring timely delivery, whereas the Data Analyst role centers on data interpretation and reporting.

Can a project manager become a data analyst?

A project manager can transition to a data analyst role by developing skills in data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, and statistical software, along with understanding data visualization and interpretation. Prior experience in managing projects can be valuable, but acquiring technical skills and relevant certifications is often necessary for the switch.

How do Data Analyst Project Managers typically balance analytical work with project management responsibilities?

Data Analyst Project Managers often split their time between overseeing project timelines and deliverables, and performing or reviewing data analysis tasks. This dual focus means they must prioritize effective communication and delegation, ensuring that project goals are met while maintaining high standards for data quality and insights. Collaboration with data analysts, stakeholders, and other project managers is essential, as they often facilitate meetings, translate technical findings into actionable recommendations, and resolve obstacles that might affect the project's progress. Successfully managing both aspects requires strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities.

Is 40 too late for data science?

For a Data Analyst Project Manager, starting a career in data science at age 40 is feasible, as many skills such as statistical analysis, programming, and data visualization can be learned at any age. Experience in project management and domain knowledge can also be valuable assets in transitioning to data science roles, which often value diverse backgrounds and continuous learning. Certifications in data science tools like Python, R, or SQL can enhance employability regardless of age.

Weโ€™re looking for a dynamic Data Analyst to help drive the quantitative and qualitative analysis central to the management and development of Gravieโ€™s innovative healthcare solutions, including our flagship level-funded and self-funded health benefits. Youโ€™ll have a particular opportunity to dig into Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRAs), a fast-growing product reshaping how employers offer benefits. Join us as we reinvent the way people purchase and access healthcare.

This position is a hybrid position based in our NE Minneapolis office.ย  You must be able to work an average of three days a week in the office with the team.ย  We provide a paid parking spot or metro pass.

You Will:

  • Play a key role in helping Gravie to understand the performance of its business, understand new opportunities, and translate those insights into solutions that meaningfully improve the health benefits people get and the healthcare they receive.

  • Ask and answer the right questions, including: How are we doing? What should we continue doing? What should we stop doing?ย  What should we start doing in the future?

  • Take ownership of regular deliverables for various business units, leveraging multiple technologies to produce solutions that are consistent, accurate, and efficient.

  • Assist in the design and execution of diverse quantitative and qualitative analyses to support the evaluation, management, and growth of new and existing products for areas across the business.ย

  • Use analytic and communication skills to tell stories with data, transforming basic and complex datasets into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences to influence business decisions and product roadmaps.ย

  • Support a culture of using data to inform decisions within the organization.

  • Apply established quality assurance measures to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of all analytical deliverables.

  • Contribute to the design, development, and enhancement of our growing analytics platform by partnering with cross-functional teams to effectively integrate data insights into business strategies and product improvements, in a robust and scalable fashion.

  • Collaborate closely with other Analysts to share knowledge and best practices, fostering an environment of knowledge sharing and professional development.

You Bring:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree, technical certification or equivalent experience required in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Economics, or other relevant area

  • 1+ years of experience in data analysis, business analytics, or a related field

  • Demonstrated analytical aptitude and problem-solving skills, with experience working with real-world datasets

  • Ability to translate data into business impact by crafting clear, data-driven narratives for stakeholders

  • Quantitative proficiency, including a solid understanding of basic mathematical and statistical concepts

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to manipulate and analyze large and complex datasets

  • Experience using SQL to query databases and explore data

  • Familiarity with Python, R, or another statistical programming language

  • Excellent attention to detail with demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Habits of excellent organization, time management, and responsiveness

  • A flexible attitude and ability to work independently with limited direction

  • An appetite for learning and quickly putting what you learn into practice

  • Demonstrated commitment to core Gravie competencies of being authentic, curious, creative, empathetic and results oriented

  • You must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Extra Credit:

  • Background or interest in health insurance or healthcare

  • Understanding of industry-specific datasets (claims, EHR, etc.) or KPIs

In exchange, we offer a great overall employee experience with opportunities for career growth, meaningful mission-driven work, and an above average total rewards package.

The salary range for this position is $49,500 - $66,000 annually. Numerous factors including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. will be considered when determining compensation.

People at Gravie care deeply about making a positive impact in the lives of the people we serve. We may not be the right place for everybody, but if you get energized by doing work every day that focuses on putting consumers at the front of the line, we could be a great place for you. It takes unique people and diverse perspectives to deliver our results. We encourage you to be your authentic self โ€“ we like you that way.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
