Job description

Mortenson is currently seeking a Data Analyst - Finance who will be responsible for supporting Finance reporting and analytics by building and maintaining Power BI reporting solutions and data processes that enable timely, accurate, business-ready insights. This role partners with Finance stakeholders and data teams to translate questions into well-defined metrics, reliable datasets, and intuitive dashboards. Work is primarily within Power BI, SQL, and the Power Platform, with exposure to finance and construction/project systems (e.g., Oracle Fusion, FDI) as applicable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to work and facilitate conversation in a cross-functional, collaborative, team-based environment

  • Report Development & Data Visualization

    • Design, build and enhance Power BI reports and dashboards that enable decision-making for Finance leaders and teams
    • Support in-app Operational Report development (Oracle Fusion, OTBI, FDI), as needed 
    • Translate requirements into effective visuals, tooltips, drill paths, and narrative elements that communicate key drivers and exceptions
    • Apply visualization and support performance improvements
    • Maintain reports through updates, validation, and user feedback
  • SQL & Data Preparation 

    • Write and maintain SQL queries to support reporting and analytics
    • Perform data validation and reconciliation to ensure accuracy
    • Partner with stakeholders to understand data sources and definitions
  • Platform Management & Optimization 

    • Support existing datasets and reporting models
    • Develop DAX measures and transformations
    • Ensure alignment with Finance definitions and standards

    • Collaborate on Data Governance Initiatives and End User trainings 

  • Collaboration & Support

    • Work with teams to gather requirements and deliver reporting solutions

    • Provide user support and documentation 

    • Assist with ongoing analytics requests 

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Toolset, Finance Report Toolsets, best practices and general Data Operations best practices 

  • Identify and implement strategic initiatives.

  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Data/Analytics, or related field
  • 3 years of experience in analytics, finance, or reporting
  • Strong working knowledge of Power BI
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • Familiarity with Power Query and basic DAX
  • Familiarity of other Operating Systems Reporting Tools (Oracle, Procore, UKG, etc) 
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills
  • (Nice to have) Experience with Power Platform tools (Power Automate, Power Apps)
  • (Nice to have) Exposure to Oracle, Procore, or similar systems
  • (Nice to have) Construction industry experience

The base pay range for this role is $72,900 - $109,400. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
